Just some photos from my hunting spot

I'm lucky enough to be able to hunt a huge vineyard and the surrounding mountain here in Napa California. The main reason I bought my Jeep was so I could navigate through my favorite hunting spots. Nothing too extreme, a few stream and creek crossings, rocks, and a lot of mud during winter. My winch, luckily, serves more as a hoist for my gambrel than it does to pull me out. Also went with Jeep Green because I think it blends in with the environment the best.

Anyway, just thought I'd contribute to the "Trail Pics" section. The guy in the pictures is my hunting partner, an older disabled vet.

Well this morning's hunt paid off! Yes he was a small guy but I needed to guarantee I'd be eating deer meat for a while longer so I took him. Got him in between a row of vineyards about 50-60 yards away, heart/lung shot. Of course I didn't bring my camera this time so all I got are these poor flip-phone photos but then again he's no trophy either lol. Still, feels great to get one this early in the season....I can relax a lot more now!

Got some good use out of my winch too!

That's one nice rig you got there bud. Love the color and all. The land your hunting must be pretty beautiful with all the tended rows of vines and whatnot. Ive heard of Napa valley but its about 3k miles from me. Maybe ill take a trip over there one day

Thanks. Yeah, there's a lot to love about California....IF you can deal with the nuthouse politics. I can't really, which is why I'm moving out as soon as I retire (still got another 15 years) even though I'll probably miss the awesome weather, beaches, and great wheeling trails!

Anyway, yes, the Napa Valley is especially beautiful. I am very fortunate to live here and be able to hunt the properties that I do. Here's a few more photos...look at all the deer trails in the last one!

If you ever visit drop me a line. There's nothing quite like Napa County merlot grape fed blacktail venison. Absolutely delicious. Complimented with of course, a glass of Napa merlot...some of the finest in the world. Salut!

Congrats on a successful hunt! Nice Jeep, nice country. There's a lot more to California than most folks realize.

That's a heck of a lot of deer trails and 1 hell of a view you got there. Good to see its appreciated. Got a lot of deer here also but I live in the flat lands of GA so no mountain views.

Great photos. I'm very happy to see that this life is still possible in the homeland of Jeep. The only state I know is Massachusetts, it seems that you can't drive off road there without hitting a tree or house (though it's a great place for other reasons).

Well I'm sorry to report, a few Sundays ago was probably one of the worst days of my life. What started out as a great deer season is now completely ruined. Rolled my beloved Jeep and nearly killed my friend too. She is fairly new to hunting and we were trying to get her her first buck. Instead, she ended up with a broken neck and lacerated liver. Both of us were ejected from the Jeep but she definitely got the worst of it. Small fracture of the C5 vertebrae in her neck which thankfully will not require surgery, just a neck brace for a few months. Also banged up her liver apparently but that too should heal on its own the doctors said. I felt pretty well beat up as well, was limping around alot. I'm better now but still wearing a splint on my left arm for a sprained wrist and my shoulder feels funny during certain movements but I'm definitely not complaining. I think we only rolled once but she swears it was twice. Hard to say. All I know is that it was a very scary and violent experience that I do NOT want to go through ever again. Really thankful my friend and I are still alive. Please be safe out there.

Good Grief!

Very glad that you two both survived. You will both heal, though it will take time.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Give us an update on how you're doing and how it happened so that others can learn from it. Main thing is, is that you're going to heal up and have a story to tell.
