I may have been mis-informed by the person I asked, but I was told that no motorized vehicles were allowed on the hitching post trail. It was reserved for hikers and horse back riding. Has there been a change?

I have map from dnr that has dates ( mostly the summer months ) that is for licensed vehicles to go on this trail and a few others. I have heard of a few people getting in trouble for being up there on there side by sides. I personally have talked to the dnr in Harrisburg and they have me the map and said have fun just to respect the trails.

I'm a long way from Illinois but I'm curious about the relationship between your DNR and the US Forest Service.

Out here in Nevada and most of the west, the only map that matters in the national forests is the forest service MVUM (Motor Vehicle Use Map).

Here are the two official links to the USFS maps for your forest...

Hidden Spring RD

Mississippi Bluffs RD

Do these maps match the DNR maps you mentioned??

BTW - Looks like it could be exceptionally beautiful in the fall!

These are basically old fire roads marked for licensed vihicle use only they are not maintained anymore you would be ok as long as you avoid the mud holes and have a buddy or a winch. As for number rating it doesn't have any that I'm aware of
