Howd that elk hunt go!? haha. my buddy took me to a place he got his dodge truck stuck the night before, up this mountain right to the top. There were these Huge drifts. We couldnt even get 10% in, I got probably close to two feet deep and it bogged me down to a stop. I backed out of it, and go figure dropped my right side down into a ditch I couldnt see, because the snow drifted over it. hahaha. so I backed out of it for about 30 yards but couldnt come back over the edge of it, so my dodge buddy pulled me out. end of adventure, haha. It was drifted probably as high as my jeep some sports furth up from where we were. I might go out again with my same friend and my brother who drives another dode truck, haha.

Oh btw, my friend wanted me to go first cause he thought Id have a better chance of making it, hahaha. Representing the Wrangler!

Haha welcome, and that was before the snow we just got. got about 4-6 inches today, finishing off tonight. tomorrow, I might get a chance to have some fun in it! it was white out conditions most of the day today, the most snow weve got all year I just wish I had my lift and tires now, but I guess next winter will have to do.

curious.

I'm from down south and never even seen a snow chain before, but is it common to run them just on the back? on all four? Just the wheels that are pulling?

Well for me it depends on which vehicle I'm in and the conditions. With my Super Duty Ford If I'm only going to chain two, I usually chain the front. The motor in this truck is so heavy it offers much better traction.

The Jeep has a rear locker which I lock while chained, plus the ride is much smoother with the chains back there. If things were a bit steeper & steering was an issue, I would chain up the front though.
When the snow is really deep or it's just flat out icy, off camber & potentially dangerous, I simply chain all four & have no worries.
With these big chains you have total confidence going up & down steep, icy mountain roads, it's a blast & you can enjoy the mountains when they are impassable for all bare foot vehicles.
