I loved that run! We did it in late February. Gorgeous scenery, just gorgeous. And even my bone stock except my sliders girl Jeep on factory 32 inch tires made it-tho I did bypass that tippy waterfall/ledge and the optional squeeze.

Up by Bumblebee/Cleator area (we ran from Cleator). I run with the Arizona Virtual Jeep Club - they post up runs a lot. If you are not a member, joining is free.

If you don't have a copy of the Wells trail book - it is really helpful has a lot of trails in it. (Guide to Arizona Backroads & 4 Wheel Drive Trails). There is even a GPS chip or whatever you can buy to program all the trails into your GPS so you don't get lost once offroad.

Where is it

I use the Arizona Backroads & 4-Wheel-Drive Trails book by Charles A. Wells. Turkey Creek is run #32 in the book. The book is a must have. It has all the GPS coordinates for all the runs in the book. You can go to www.funtreks.com where you can get all the GPS coordinates as well.

Turkey Creek is a fun trip, lots of water crossing, large boulders , tight turns, shelf roads and drop off's. It starts near the town of Bumble Bee and goes up the creek in Black Canyon to Turkey Creek and ends in the old Gost town of Cleator, AZ population 7. Old Bar in Cleator is the end of the run. Two (2) Bad spots: 1. Between bolders with a drop down. you can lose you fender or tail light . It has a by pass. 2. A rock wall on the left with a very tight road that has large drop off's down to the creek and is slowly being wash out. You can bypass it as well.

I belong to a Jeep Club in Prescott AZ which has usually 1-2 runs a month and many of them are half way between up here and Phoenix. The club is free to join. The Off Road ~ AZ No Club Club (Prescott, AZ) - Meetup

A note about Wells tho-their trail ratings are a bit conservative. They put Turkey Creek as "difficult". I probably could have made the two obstacles had I really tried, maybe crunched something (hopefully insignificant like the stock bumper or tailpipe lol!) on the rock wall/ledge (we went up it since we ran the other way)-but needed to get to work Monday so played a little conservative. Otherwise my totally stock heep made it. Even with the obstacles, I would never give this trail the same rating as say Elvis (we did that in Lunatics Jeep not mine lol).

The pucker parts in Turkey Creek are the switchbacks. Coming down on a switch and the trail seems to drop right out from under you-you cannot see ground over the hood until you hit it lol!

The Book

You are right on about the ratings of trails using the AZ Backroads book. When they say "Difficult", to me, it means a little moderate. They are very conservative. I have done maybe half of the book and haven't had one yet that I would rate really difficult.
