I just picked up a 59 willy and looking at my options on a motor upgrade instead of rebuilding the 4 banger in it now. From. Y research the Buick v6 seems the way to go. I have read up on the Novak site and it lists the different models that have the engine I can use but doesn't that list years just says rear wheel drive versions. So anybody who has done the swap can you tell me if there are certain years to look for or it doesn't matter

I was looking at this swap for my YJ with a FWD 3100 GM 60* v6. The GM 60* v-6 engine family has the small GM corporate bell housing pattern like the 4.0 and 2.5 Jeep engines. The FWD engines intake is on the bell housing side of the engine. All RWD GM v-6 (except large corporate pattern like SBC/BBC and 4.3 V-6) are great engines but I think I would attempt to source one from a v-6 late model gm f-body along with the harness and computer.

I would avoid newer GM 3500 engine at all cost. a lot of blown up 3500's in the salvage yards.

Frankly, I wouldn't swap in any of the Buicks. The 225 was/is a great engine in an early Jeep but the ubiquitous Chevy 4.3 is a WAY better choice these days. More abundant, very much better parts selection, and better oil system. I would be looking for a TBI version.

X2 with what duffer said. I love the sound, and gas mileage of the Buick odd fire v6. But starting from scratch, I would do a late model 4.3, with vortex heads and TBI fuel injection. Plus, you will have an HEI distributor with the motor already. Painless and others have new wiring harnesses ready made for your swap.
