Emissions?Axles?Gears?

I have a buddy who is getting an 76 CJ7 it has the 304 v8 and auto-matic tranny all factory as far as he was told. What all does the CJ need to pass the emmisions thing for inspection. Also it has stock axles on it so what kind of axles do yall think it has. Also what kind of gearing did that year model CJ have in it? I have a 97 TJ and i have studied that thing front to back top to bottom but the CJ's i dont anything about. So i am trying to get all the CJ info that i can. Thank's...97REDTJ.

Should have the AMC 20(get some 1pc axles in there and life will be good) in the rear dana 30 in the front, upgrade shafts and u-joints).. Gear wise.. some where around high would be my guess. my Cj had 3.31's but that was with the 6.

Hey Wes, I still have the original axles from the YJ, that came off of a Grand Wagoneer. That would look really good under that CJ, as they have narrow axles. The front axle is a D44, and a AMC 20 one piece for the rear. I would be more than glad to trade them, for some paint on the YJ........lol. As far as TX emissions, no sniff test for anything older than 20-25 yrs. As long as everything else works, it will pass.

Hey Axel what all you wanting to paint on that ol' beast? I mean since my we ( my family ) our own body shop maybe we can do some trading than. bause ya i jusy talk to the guy this morning and the axles under the cj are the 30 front and 20 in the rear. So maybe we can do some talking and swapping with the d44 in the front.

As far as the emissions go you will only have to have the same emissions equipment that was mandated for that year vehicle.

Hey Wes, all you have to worry about, for that year, is that the brake lights work, the turn signal works, and that it is properly tuned, that is it. And make sure there is not a crack in the windshield where you sit and look out, without obstruction. That is about it.
