How do I set timimg on '80 Iron Duke

I can see the plate with the degrees on it but I have no idea how to see the mark on the pulley. Any one have any ideas?
The view to the pulley is blocked by the belt.

On vehicles that I haven't been able to see the timing mark on the pulley I use a piece of chalk and mark it by feel. Once you have located the notch, go over it with the chalk several times then wipe the area with a rag. That will take off the excess chalk but the chalk will stay in the notch and that is what you will see with the timing light. Hope this helps.

I did the same as above but used a yellow crayon as it lasts longer.
