t176 fluid issue

Decided to try and change the tyranny and transfer case fluids today. Picked up some valvoline 80w90. Only took 4 stores to find enough. Haha

Anyways, drained both and got ready to fill. I read that the transfer case takes 3.25 or 4 qts. Heard both online. And the transmission take 3.5 qts.

I put in 2 qts into the transfer case and it started to overflow. Weird, but I capped the fill port. I started to fill the tranny and after about maybe a qt, the transmission started to overflow.

I know when it overflows that's when it's full, but it doesn't really make an sense how that is possible since it drained more than 3 qts when I emptied them.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm new to this and don't want to ruin my tranny.

Thanks
