Just bought a used 2014 JKUR with new Toyo RT's 295-70-17,,10 ply. had them at 39PSI and they rode like steel. Lowered them to 33PSI and they are only tolerable. When the road is smooth they are OK but when the asphalt gets rough, not good. Called Toyo and they recommend a min PSI of 35. How are the E rated tires riding for everyone? Might do some changes in the 3 inch lift but just want a logical plan.
I could go down to 32 cold. At 34 they are not real bad and low PSI will cause higher temps and won't help the MPG. The next thing is look at the suspension. 3 lift ft and a 2 in the rear. Kings ft and stock ruby shocks rear. I'll do more reading here about that.
I get perfect tire wear and I have driven to California and back and Moab and back 75-80mph for hours on end. I use the 10%rule and have been running Toyo e rated tires on my wranglers since 2012. I never had any luck with the chalk test as same results no matter what psi ran.
I've put 60k miles on my Toyo MTs at 26 PSI (cold), they still have at least 10k (or more) in them. Rotate all 5 tires often and consistently for best results.
Well, really thinking of going to the BFG KO2's in 315-70-17 for a better ride. My 295-70-17 RT's are like new and one has never hit the ground. In the real world what are they worth?
Just keep in mind that with softer sidewalls you do get a softer ride, but the trade off is worse handling. If the sidewalls are too soft, going around corners can get interesting. The best term I can think of to describe how a Jeep feels on sidewalls that are too soft is squirmy.
I run mine lower than that. I run mine at 26-28psi and that is perfect psi for them using the 10% rule. If a tire is too low psi they will heat up and your psi will rise if they are too high psi the psi wont change much, if the psi goes up 10% from cold psi to fully warmed up that is about perfect. I drive 75-80mph for hours on end and never have had an issue. I have taken this particular set of tires to the rubicon, dusy ershim and to moab a couple of times. I live in Montana so it is quite a drive and we usually set the cruise on 80 and only stop for gas. I have been doing this with toyo e rated tires since 2012 and they get perfect wear. I ran this same set of tires on my 14 jkur which was pretty heavy and now on my jkr with 0 issues or complaints.
Thanks jadmt, you just save me some time and big money. Your post count gives you massive cred. I really like the look of the RT's and they corner like I am on rails. I think once I get the springs, shocks, and the rest dialed it will ride better. My 3&2 lift is a bit of a joke. RE springs, King front shock with unknown valving and the rear shocks factory rubicon without extensions. No bump stops, Rear sway bar tilted way down, front track bar stock. Think I will remove it all and start over.
