Question '13 JKU Tire/Lift Dilemna

Hi, there.

Just bought a '13 JKU Freedom Edition.

Decided to keep the 17" rims that came with the Oscar Mike edition and upgraded the tires today to 285/70/R17, which I was told by Discount Tire is equivalent to a 33".

I was expecting them to stick out an inch or more from the fenders for a wider looking stance. I assumed they would because my hubby has a '10 JK with 31" tires and 17" after market rims and they do stick out more.

So, I'm a bit disappointed in how they look now. I'm a Jeep Newb and feeling torn as to how to get the look I want.

I would like to do a small 1-2" lift to give it a little more height. I don't want it to be much higher because I think 33" tires look silly with too much wheel well space above the tire. That being said...I'd like to ask for your advice.

What are pros/cons to adding wheel spacers to give the tires a wider stance?

I thought about going with JKS ACOS for an adjustable spacer lift, but when I look on their website I only see options up to '12 for JKU. Have any of you found JKS ACOS that work for '13 JKUs?

I could do a 2 1/2 inch Teraflex suspension lift, but then I feel like that will give too much height. Any thoughts or suggestions I'm open to hearing from you.

They didn't stick out as u expected because of e backspacing. You can make em stick out with wheels spacers.

ThE only differences from 12 and 13 are very subtle. The 2013s don't require pinch seems anymore since they are minimized from the factory. Small interior differences and wheels. If the Acos fits the 12, u should have no prob for the 13.

To save u a lil money, e teraflex leveling kit should suffice ur needs. Budget boost but $1 is still $1 and that $ goes a long way. Best bang for the buck.

Thanks. I may just do wheel spacers and a 2" lift of some kind. I will have to shop around. I really like Teraflex, but might do Rough Country.

if its a leveling kit, mostly any brand will work (teraflex/rough country/pro comp, etc). Under two inches for a leveling kit and ur good to go.

however if the leveling kit is 2.5-3 inches...it will require more components to fix geometry.

If your planning on coil springs, i wouldn't recommend rough country. their price is very enticing, but thats all.

last, did they recalibrate your speedometer once they added the 285/70/17s?

You could do a 2 inch or 2.5 inch coil spacer lift

So, here is what I've decided on:

Teraflex 2.5 Lift
Teraflex 1.25 Wheel Spacers (33's are rubbing right now), plus I want a wider stance.
N-Fab Matte Black Side Steps

All to be completed this next week or so. I'll post pics when it's done. 👍

Oh, sorry forgot to read further. Yes, I took it into the dealer and had them recalibrate for larger tires. At some point I plan to buy a chip but have no budget left right now. :-)

Question for the advanced knowledge people: Is she experiencing rubbing from a height standpoint or a width standpoint. Will a lift fix her problem or is it a backspacing problem and the rim/tire combo? I am looking at running her set up...those sized tires (285/70r17) on factory rims. I am planning on a 2.5 inch lift...likely the Metalcloak 2.5 lift but I won't lift until later. I don't want to run into the same problem as she did with rubbing if I put the 33" tires on now and have them rub because I am not ready to do a lift...Please advise.

Im a noob so take my advice with a grain of salt, but wheel spacers make me nervous after the research I have done on them (I was considering them). I know a lot of people use them and are fine, but wheel spacers have lots of risks and potential problems for error like the spacers coming loose and the wheels falling off. You have to check them often to be sure they are properly tightened etc. If this is all new news to you, research wheel spacers before you pull the trigger on your set up. Some places won't install them because of the liability.

So, I finally finished the 2.5" Teraflex lift with springs and shocks last week. It did a great job of leveling the Jeep and lifting it.

Also added NFAB Nerf Steps and put 1.25" Teraflex wheel spacers on. My turning radius is so much better now and no rubbing.

I was told by Discount Tire that they will check the spacers anytime. Just come on in. So, that's pierce of mind at no charge.

I've added some recent pics so you can see the difference now.
