Just got my 06 TJ 3 weeks ago and while it's nice in stock form, I know it's not going to stay that way. As I'm planning my mods, of course the thought goes to wheels and tires. It will serve as my daily driver for a while, so I'll probably hold out on a lift for now. From what I've been reading on the forum, that would make 31" tires the largest I'd be able to run on the stock suspension.
My question is for the wheels, concerning 15x8 vs 15x10... I love the look of a wide stance and I don't really believe tires can stick out too far on a jeep. I'm also planning on getting some wider fender flares, 6"-7", maybe the Bushwhackers, haven't decided just yet.
For the purposes of being a DD, driving through the Chicago snow, and perhaps some LIGHT off roading for now, what differences could I expect from the different widths of wheels? I get that the wider wheels will be heavier which will affect gas mileage, and there's the back spacing issue. What else should I know before deciding on them?
I want to upgrade to some black wheels (tj is yellow)
How would a set of 31" tires be able to handle a switch from a 15x7 to a 15x8 wheel if I got the tires first? I assume I'd be restricted on the width of tire I could fit on the stock rim. Any other issues to potentially deal with?
