Question 285/75R16 vs. 285/70R17 ?

I'm waiting for my 2013 2-door to be delivered. I've spent hours and hours researching new wheel and tires (I want largest without any modifications). Thought I had it figured out: Duratracs 285/75R16 as they're cheaper than the 17s. Then, I realize the 16s only come with an E-rating and I've read that this is not desireable, especially on a daily driver.

What are your opinions? Pay more for the 17s? Live with the 16s?

Or... is there another comparable tire in the 16" size that you would recommend?

I have the 16" E rated and i notice the weight. First time driving felt like wearing concrete shoes. Crap for MPG as well. Wish had taken more time researching other sizes and their weight.

All that being said love the Duratracs!

I have e rated 285/75-16's (toyo open country at 2's) and they are very smooth riding. No way could anybody tell them from C rated tires based on ride.

I have to agree completely. According to the Tire Rack site the Duratracs in 285/75/16 and 285/70/17 both weigh 54 lbs. The 16 is E rated, the 17 is a D. If you can feel the difference between the two in ride you are a tire god!

I never saw the specs on the 17s. My comments based on vs stock. Just pointing out that the weight made a difference.

I've run both and it is hard to tell a difference. The most noticeable being a difference between C and any other load range. You'll notice the weight of the tire more than the load range. Most heavier load ranges weigh more though. Having said that, shocks make a world of difference too.
