I'm picking up my 2003 Wrangler X Monday and I'm in a small predicament, the jeep desperately needs new tires. The guy I'm buying it from runs a tire business and said he would be able to get me tires extremely cheap and install them, but I'm planning on putting a 2" lift and 31-32" tires on so I don't want to have to buy tires twice. Can I just have him put 31 or 32's on it just to drive it home? Its about an hour drive so if the worst that's going to happen is the tires rubbing in the wheel wells should I just go for it?
IF the tires rub, in an hour you could destroy the sidewalls or the tread...so do some google work and find out if the Wrangler X would take 31's as stock tire! If you aren't going to go offroading it may not be a problem at all. Or go the cheap budget boost route...while he's changing the tires, with a spring compressor he can throw in 2" budget boost-it's an easy job. I had them on my 03 rubicon TJ for a couple years, dealer put them on for me while installing the 31 x 12.5's I bought used and got the bb with the deal! Off roaded all over with that setup until I finally broke down and installed 4" lift and went to 33" tires.
Interesting-have 2004 unlimited all stock-just picked up 31x10.50x 15 based on some forum feedback to quote -"NO Rubbing issue" Even responses from supporting members Guess what--The Duratraks rub on hard turns
Further searches revealed-some say rub-others no problem-same model-sill trying to get straight answer
Let me know if you figure it out
Many extremely helpful and knowledeable on the forum and others with good intentions that they should fail to reveal
