33x10.50R15 Tires & Wheels Backspacing

Hey to all,

I'm new to the forum, and still figuring out where everything is on here.

I am sure this question has been overasked, but I want to make sure I buy the right combination.

I just bought a 98 Wrangler Sahara. I have the 2.5" coil/shock lift kit from Rough Country on the way. I may be adding the 1.25" body lift also, if it is necessary. I want to get 33x10.50R15 BFG A/T or KM2s.

What I am not sure of is the backspacing that I need. I have factory 15x7 wheels on the Jeep now, but I have read that bigger tires will hit the lower control arms when on factory wheels. If I do purchase aftermarket wheels, what backspacing would be ideal? Also, would a 15x7 or 15x8 wheel be better?

I have seen some pictures of Jeeps with the 33x10.50s that look great, but I do not know what backspacing was used. I would like for the tires to be close to flush with the outer edge of the Sahara fender flare.

Any information or pictures would be appreciated.

Thanks,

J

I have an OME 2.5 lift and a 1.25 JKS BL, waiting for the tires to wear out to put KM2's on. The research I've done shows that the 33 10.5/15 KM2's will fit on the stock rims with the possibility of needing 1-2 washers under the steering stop to aleviate any rubbing issues that may, or may not, arise. If you're going with new rims anyway, then 4" backspacing is the way to go, that way if you decide to go to 12.5's down the road, you still can.

Thanks for responding. I found a set of black daytona rock crawler wheels on Ebay. They are 15x8 with 3.75" backspacing. Would this work fine? Just wondering if the 1/4 " would make much of a difference.

They'll work fine. Pretty sure your current wheels have 5.5" bs. So the new ones will be 1.75" to the outside of your current wheels. 31x10.5's will fit them fine.
