33x12.50 vs 32x11.50 HELP

Still having trouble making a decision!! Here is my set up...
1999 TJ 4.0L 3spd auto
2.5 Rough country lift.

Duratracs do not come in 32" and I'm afraid the 33x12.50 will stick out too much... Should I spend a little more and get the 32x11.50 MT/R with Kevlar??? I will be running on the road some but when I go wheeling I don't want to be stuck in the mud or sliding back wards down slimy trails....

What wheels are you running on your rig? With only 2.5" of lift you are limited to 32s.

I was going to order wheels the same time I ordered tires. Something in Alloy. I was told that the duratracs run small so I didn't want to go 31x10.50 and the next jump in the durtrac is 33x12.50 in which I was told measure about like a 32" tire but I was concerned about them being 12.50 wide. The MT/R comes in 32X11.50
Does that make sense? Just don't want to drop that much money and not be happy...

My friend Mike has absolutely no problems with muddy trails with his MTRs w/Kevlar.

Run the MTR's or the Cooper STT's. Both come in a 32X11.50X15 and have good traction yet handle well on pavement. Look a the specs of a 32X1150 vs a 33X1250 in terms of weight per tire. You'd be surprised how much more rolling mass a 33 has. For only a 3/4" clearance gain, I don't think it's worth it unless you plan to regear, get better brakes and do a body lift to clear 33's.

the Duratrac 33x12.50x15 actually measures 32x11.50x15 on a 15x8" wheel. I know this because I have them on my TJ, with a 2.25" BBL, 4.0L 3 spd auto, 3.07gears. I don't have any problems with them. I do have 3.65 backspace on my wheels though. no problem at all in the slimy mud!

Decision made! The 32x11.50 MT/R K's are on National back order....
33x12.50 duratracs in stock and are being mounted on MB Razors wheels hopefully shipped out today!!!
Pictures when I get it all together...

I run 33x10.50r15 BFGoodrich A/T which are the perfect compromise to your problem, they sell them in Mud Terrains if that's more your speed but, they are better in mud and snow than thicker tires, with the exception of low flotation and you still get the aggressive tall tire. I used to have 33x12.50 but they rubbed against short arms as well as stuck out a bit too far. If you still want the height with none of the width go for the 33x10.50, you will not regret. I sure don't.

32x11.50R15 BFG KM2's if your running the 2 inch lift. More flex room and better on fuel. They'll also be cheaper when it comes time to replace them.

Transformation begins!!

Got home last night to find my Brand new 33X12.50X15 Good Year Duratrac's mounted on Brand New MB Razor Wheels... All good right? Well beside them is my new Rough Country 2.5 lift with 2.2 shocks.. Wrong, open the box and it is a Rough Country 4 inch lift... So I call them and they tell me they had computer problems the day I ordered and I believe them cause it was 2 days before I got a order email confirmation and it was blank no attachments... Super nice guy tells me he will send me out a 2.5 lift but with my tire set up I will be MUCH happier with the 4 inch lift. (the wife is not cause it was $250.00 higher) Talked me into it!!! Hope to have it together by Friday... Pictures to follow

Hey Duck, Some folks say go big or go home. In your case, it sounds like go big and go homeless. Okay, that was a lame attempt @ humor.

Will you now have to make additional mods (SYE, lower t-case, control arms, etc.)??

Went with the 4" RC lift and 33x12.50's.. Had a couple Issues with the lift but one phone call to Rough Country's toll free number and its all good... GREAT customer service!!!

I really can't answer that as this is my very first Jeep build.. I can can tell you if you like mud/road slop slinging all down the side and up on the hood just from Idling down a wet gravel/dirt road by all means go with the wider 12.50's...... I found that out on Saturday's first test drive after 5 inch's of rain...

If you don't like mud slung in your face and frequent stops at the carwash, get some Bushwacker fender flares. I like the pocket style for TJs. They come in two different widths to cover wider than stock tires. And no, I don't work for the company. LOL
