35s with 3" Teraflex lift on '11 Rubi 4D stock wheels?

Hi everyone,

I did a search but couldn't seem to find something on point. I am having my Rubi JKU outfitted with skid plates and a 3" Teraflex lift on Monday. The shop doing it suggested 35" Interco SSRs but apparently they aren't available due to supply problems. I inquired on an alternative. He suggested 285/75/17 Toyo Open Country M/Ts. A bit smaller than the Interco ones. I called a few tire places and got widely differing opinions. One shop said that 35s would not work well on a 3" lift and I should stick with 33s. I'm a newbie on Jeeps so I'm quite confused. Nobody seems to agree on what I can get under there. I guess the biggest problem is that I'm trying to stick with the stock Rubi wheels and folks have said that limits my tire choices since the Rubi wheels are a little too narrow for some of the other tire choices. Anybody got opinions on the 35 with 3" and stock Rubi wheels thing and/or on the Toyo or Interco tires? Thanks very much.
Signed - confused in Mass.

It's not that the wheels are too narrow, although they are slightly at 7.5"... It's that they have too much backspacing to fit the width of the tire.... With spacers they will fit. We have 315/70/17's on 2.5" lift on our JK... No problems other than rubbing the air dam. But we put on wheels with less bs...

If it makes a difference, I forgot to mention that he is adding1.25" spacers. Not sure if that helps.

Stock wheel width and offsets do limit your tire options. If you have the funds I'd recommend upgrading your wheels as well. This will open you up to some additional sizes and will help you get the most out of your tires.

If you are set on keeping your stock wheels the 285/75R17 is a great size with your lift. These are just under 34" tall and about 11.25" wide. Nitto builds their Terra Grappler in this size and they do great on and off road.

If you are on a budget but really want to get a 35" tire to fit you may want to look into some 15" wheels and tires. There's a few 15" wheel options that fit and pricing on the packages are pretty good. Here's a link to some details on them: 15" MB72 alloy Vs 15" Steel wheels
