That'll work! The lower backspacing with push the tire out further though, but not too bad. And you'll be able to use that wheel with a 33x12.50 tire if/when you go larger.

New member - need some advise. Currently have 30/9.5X15 on stock alloys. Would like to move up to 31/10.5X15 and NOT do any mods to vehicle. Does you see any problems?
Will rub at full lock. Started to damage the inside side walls on my front tires. I needed to add 4 washers under each steering stop bolt. Of course this increases minimum steering radius. You could also get rub against rear coil spring mount pad that would cut into rear sidewall. Spacing there can be tight with 31s on stock rims. I ended up replacing my rims for less backspacing and got rid of the steering stop washers.
When ever this question comes up I seem to forget the spacer option. But be aware that spacers are not legal in some states, and some shops won't tuoch the wheels (i.e., for a rotation) if there are spacers.
I haven't bought the wheels/tires yet and am now wondering, what is the largest I can run on 15x8 with 3 5/16 backspacing on the stock suspension / no lift kit?
Tires & Wheels 2000 TJ just purchased 2012 Tire Set will they fit.
Putting the cart before the Horse.
I have a 2000 TJ Sahara, in need of tires. (Stock 30/9.5/15), I purchased a set of 2012 Take off's 255/70R/18 . I went on line and purchased a set of hub adaptors 5x4.5 to 5x5 1.25 inch offset. I haven't started the install of the new tires, but wanted to know if my new (31" diameter) Rubber will clear without needing a lift kit. I was able to get 5 brand new tires and 18" rims for less than the price of 4 tires mounted on my Old 15" rims. Seems like a lot of buyers of New Jeeps are doing tire and wheel package modifications, and the result is that a LOT of OEM tires and rims are available at really great prices. I had my choice of 255/75R/17 or 255/70R/18 same overall size (31").
If I need to do a lift, what is the least aggressive way to go./Users/Steve/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2012/Feb 18, 2012/DSC06652.JPG
HI
I'm a Newb to the forum, but have been driving Jeeps for the past 40 years.
Here is what I just did, and it might interest you. Along with my Question.

Just put 33x10.5 BFG M/T's on 15x8 stock rims and they rub slightly at full stop. This is the subject of another thread I started in the TJ forum, but also looking to see what folks here would recommend for wheel backspace and offset. This is a confusing subject...
We've considered a body lift on top of the 2.5" RC suspension lift. The debate over wheels alone vs. wheels, body lift and new rear bumper (for the spare) is ultimately about $$$... of course, we'd like all-of-the-above... :whistling:
I was looking for some help I want to put some 305r70 17 tires on my 06 Tj, and I want to put them on a 17x9 wheel with 4.5 backspace and -12mm offset, I was wondering if the rim has enough backspacing and offset for that size of tire if I have a 3" suspension lift as well. thanks.
I'm on the other end of the spectrum here. I have 33x12.50x15 tires on 12.50x15 wheels, no idea on the backspacing. I like the 12.50 tires but I am concerned about the wheels being so wide both for the sake of the hub and ball joints as well as the wheel itself since it sticks out so far. Also as I learned in this thread, airing down could be an issue as well.
To keep the same size tires, should I get 15x8 wheels? Any real advantage/disadvantage to keeping the current wheels?
I just bought my 97 Tj and its all stock . I ordered a lift, 33x12.50 tires, but haven't ordered the wheels. What back spacing do I need on 15x8 wheels?
Can you put a 9" wheel on a stock tj. The wheel I want is a 17x9 with a -12 mm offset. I was wanting to go with 265/75/17 tires. A tire website says it won't work because rim is too wide and offset it out a reccomended specs. Is there a solution??
that being said on a tj and even a jk why are you going to a 17? compare rubber prices 15-17 rims. not to mention with a smaller rim you get much more side wall to flex and then the extra weight of the rim will make you loose more performance.
I am planning on buying the Teraflex 2.5" with bilstein 5100's which requires a 4.5" bs or less.
The wheel I want is Fuel Throttle 18x10 with offset -12. And I want to wrap it in Toyo MT 33/12.5/18.
now i think that allthis will play nice together but my question is about the bs. will that work and will the tires extend out past the fenders and if so how much? Im an idiot when it comes to the offset/backspacing thing.
Anythoughts and or advice on this particular set up would be awesome! :Thanx:
Another dumb question from a new/old jeep wrangler owner. Can I put the 17" rims from a cherokee on my wrangler? Looks like the offset discussed earlier may be an issue?
