Biggest 16" tire on stock 2012 Wrangler Sport?

I've got P255/75/r17 Goodyear Silent Armor on my aftermarket Ultra Drifter II rims for summer, but I still have my old 16" stock steelies in my garage.

What's the biggest tire size I can run on stock 16" rims? I was looking at something that matched height wise, like a P285/75. I'm looking at an awesomely aggressive tire that I can run studs in for the ultimate winter vehicle. I live in Buffalo NY up in Wyoming County, where feet of snow is common. I drive an hour to work, and I need the best snow tire out there.

Forgot to mention...no lift mods. Not looking to lift until after my factory warranty is up.

It depends on how wide the steel wheels are. The approved wheel width for a 285/75/16 is from 7.5-9. If the tire is too wide for the wheel it can create stress on the shoulder of the tire and can cause excessive cracking or separations. If you go to the tire manufacture website and look up the size and model you want. They will state the approved wheel width for the tire of your choice. Hope this helps.

Thank you! It really does. As far as i know the stock 16" rims are 16x7, so that puts me right around the 265/75/r16

Get a set of 235/85-16 Duratracs. They are studdable but probably not necessary. You will Laugh Out Loud at Mother Nature.
