Confused on tire size options

I just picked up my first Jeep - a 2000 Wrangler. It currently has a 3" body lift, 1.5" coil spacers and is running BFG M/T KM2 35x12.50x15 tires on Cragar 320 Quick Trick wheels.

I want to go to a smaller tire, but I am a bit lost on the sizing options with the rims I have. If I want to go down to a 31 or 32 tire, how do I know what width will work on the same rims? What about metric sizes?

Thanks much in advance.

From what I learned on here that setup is asking for trouble. I'm thinking the PO was trying to fit 35's with as little money as possible so he prob didn't upgrade the axles to help with the stress a 35" tire brings.

You should probably pull the 3" BL as anything over 1.25" is putting a lot of stress on the now longer bolts holding the body on the frame. the 1.5" spacers should fit the 31 or 32 without any help.

If you want to run 31 or 32 inch tires you won't need any kind of body lift or spring spacer as those are stock tire sizes. If you want to understand tire sizes check Discount Tire website, they have a lot of information as well as what size tire came on your jeep from the factory.

Pull the body lift off, cut it down to 1.25" re install it, leave the coil spacers on and put some 32's on it and call it macaroni

What I am mainly asking here is this; If I have a 15" rim that currently has a 12.50 wide tire on it. Can I be sure that if I go to a 10.5 or 11.5 wide tire it will work with the same rim, or is there something else I need to check.

Thanks for all the replies. I have some questions on reducing the body lift that I will put in another post.

What is the width of your rims? I have the stock 7" wide rims so I got 10.5's I could have gone 11.5 at the max. At 12.5" tires you probably have 8-10" wide rims. If you have 10" wide rims your going to want to stay with 12.5" wide tires because it helps the seal and allows you to air farther down if you need to.

So just to follow up, I ended up getting a set of Kenda Klever 32x11.50x15 tires and a set of Black Rock 97 15x8 wheels. Huge improvement in ride, I'm very happy. Next I'll tackle the body lift issue. Thanks for all the input!

I'm curious to know how the Kendas are holding up. I was thinking about buying a set of 31x10.50R15 Kenda Klever M/T KR29s.

So far, so good. We only have about 1,000 miles on them but no problems so far. Good looking tires too.

Thanks. I'm not sure I can pass up $140 a piece installed.
