Red face First Post: Newb Question - Want burly wheels on '11 JK, but not sure about size

Hey guys,

First time poster and new 2011 Jeep Wrangler owner! Hoping for your help.

Everything on my Jeep is stock so far, and the first thing I'd like to change is the wheels/tires. If my searches on the internet haven't lead me astray, I *think* I have the sock 16" rims on it now with matching stock tires.

My quesiton is this: I want to know what the biggest size rims/tires I can get WITHOUT making any other changes to the car (like raising suspension or anything). I'm hoping to get some burly looking black rims, nice big wheels (ideally that set out a bit wider from the fender).

Anyone done this and have any info? Suggestions/pictures/measurements based on what you've tried? I sure appreciate any info you can share!

Thanks,
Karla

Welcome Karla! I have a 2012 sport and I went with 33" Goodyear Duratrac and MB 72 15x8 alloy wheels. I don't have a lift or anything. I believe that was the max I could go without installing a lift, which I didn't want to do. Everyone will tell you this combo works and MANY have this combo. Don't get steel wheels if you go with 33". For whatever reasont he steel wheels will rub against your brake capliers. The alloy wheels won't. Duratrac is a great tire. Quieter than most but still rugged enough to handle off roading. While I don't go off roading the Duratrac has a great rating for snow and living in WI I need good tires in the winter. I think total for 5 tires and 5 wheels I spend a total of $1400, which is reasonable. I got the tires at Goodyear and the wheels from here: MB Wheels 72 custom rims

I hope all this helps. Good luck and post pics when you are done!

ohh another thing. Check to see what your bolt pattern is. Mine was a 5x5. I am not sure if yours will be the same. I believe it is but you may want to double check. Bolt patterns will matter what you can get.

first you're gonna have to find a rim you like/ once you have that you'll know how big/wide you can go. there are several threads that address your questions and answer in depth and i'll provide those links for you. Also you want to keep in mind that changing tire sizes will often change the reading on your speedo.

here are some helpful links:
