pic of the basic tire is pretty lousy...the thing is it`s a 16 inch rim and I have a brand new set of Goodyear Wrangler 265 75 R16 tires on my Ford Ranger, they would look great on it I think, if they will go on the rims? I figure a 16 inch rim will hold any 16 inch tire? Would there be clearance for it?
She suggested I upgrade to...... $660 for 17" Aluminum wheels + P255/75R17 OWL On/Off Road Tires... $550 = $1150 + tax
So trying to find a pic of that tire via google but it does not seem to look as good as my 16 inch Goodyear 265 75 R16 Wranglers
My I could go the 5000 bucks for the Mickey thompsons on 17 inch rims, but that would be to decadent
Sorry this is so long
Help please
The pic of the 255/75R 17 OWL on off road tires are hard to find, unless thats it, doesnt have the nice tread that my Goodyear Wranglers have.
What about just taking it the way it is with the crap tires and changing down the road, but if my 16 inch Goodyear Wrangler 265 75R16 will fit on the crappy 16 inch rims, that might not be too bad?
$5000 for Mickey Thompson MTZs and sorry but mediocre rims? The MTZ should be about $350 each X 5 =$1750. So they want $3250 for rims! You could get a set of 5 AEV or Rock Monster rims for $1500-$2500. Unless prices are just that much higher in Canada they are crazy over priced. Offer them $2500 for the set and that is being reasonable to maybe generous. Bet they will take the offer if you are willing to walk over it.
Thank You for taking the time, I realize now my thread was to long....
It would be easy to change from 16 inch to 17 inch after I get it? Actually the overall price of the jeep compared to other Ontario dealers (minus the tires) is the best I could find.
The 17" wheels will offer you a much larger selection of tires! Especially if you decide to run 37's. Only if it were me I would do the 17 inch wheels rather than spending the money twice.
just before I read your reply I had read a in-depth discussion here of 16 vs 17 Rims Tires, my take was that it was split decision, so I was feeling good about that, and I was thinking of staying with the cheap 16`s they are offering. I have to order it with wheels and tires right!
Hope you can answer me this... Will the cheap 16 inch rims they are offering take the New Goodyear Wrangler LT 265 75 R16`s I already have at my home?
Well, you should be able to buy used or nearly-new Rubicon take-off wheels & tires for about $1000. That would give you the 17" wheels and the cool mud tires.
The other tires "she" is suggesting sound like the normal SR-A's that are the big tire option on the Sport. They're fine on the road but considered pretty poor off road.
Thank You... The pics I could see of the 17 inch tire she mentioned, did not look as good to me as my Goodyear Wrangler LT 265 75R16
After reading some threads here and the input from you guys is to go with the cheap 16 inch tires and rims they are offering because you cant order it without wheels, then I will swap them out for my Ford Ranger Tires that I mentioned.
And then I can upgrade at a later date with something else as you say used even.
I think the lt265 75 R16 will look pretty good for starters:iamhappy:
Definitely stick with the cheapest. The 17" or even 18" options can be picked up off kijiji really cheap. One word of cation if you're ordering. Get the jeep with 3.73 axle ratio instead of the stock 3.21. It's way cheaper to order it that way, than to upgrade later. That way, you can go with any tire size without loosing to much power.
Thank You I wished I had thought of that, I think it said only 125 bucks for that option.
Quick question.... Is switching from 16 inch to 17 inch on a 2015 Wrangler as simple as just getting the proper 17 inch rim? Is that it, there is nothing else that has to be done to it?
Pretty much. The only thing that will occur is your speedo will be off due to the larger tires. You can easily adjust that yourself if you buy a procal, or a dealer can do it. (But they will probably charge you a hundred bucks for two minutes of work) I'd be making a call to see if you can change that axle ratio. That's 125 bucks now, or 2k to do it later.
I called the dealer yesterday shortly after it was suggested ... I asked if it was not to late could I please have the 3.73 option for 125 bucks, they assured me that I did not need that unless I was planning to tow heavy stuff.
I then said what about the one in your showroom with the 5000 buck 33 inch Mickey Thompson tires on 17 inch wheels, didn`t it automatically go to the 3.73 ratio, they said no it did not .
I had said I might at some point want to do that and it will be very expensive later I am told, again they said if you are not towing heavy stuff you dont need it, and you would only burn more fuel...paraphrasing but that was the jist.
I did not argue the point. I read quite a bit on this stuff on several threads at several forums via google search, Definitely I would say...guess 55% said you got to go with the 3.73 ratio, while 45% said they were doing fine with the other 3.21
I regeared to 4.10, with very little loss of fuel economy at all. The jeep doesn't feel like it's lugging like it used too, and is much more responsive when accelerating. It's so cheap to do now, I would insist, but that's me. Too bad you couldn't take a rubicon for a test drive to see what I mean. They come with 3.73 as standard equip, and can be upgraded to 4.10.
Thanks, I will post back when I finally get it in a couple months, not planning any muddin ouside of my own dangerously steep hill , hopefully I wont be to regretful ....
You see I changed my mind a couple times on things already, they could have been better, but know I dont want out, and even though it was pricy compared to my American brothers, was a very good price here, no other dealer could match the price ...speaking of the basics...actually I wanted to be strong and I was, I said no to every single option
perhaps I will regret the 125 dollars, they really did not want to pull the order back to edit, just the feeling I got, or she honestly did not think I needed it
I guess they took me at my word from my first communication that I wanted zero options. I was very happy that Power steering and brakes and decent Stereo was standard.
