How much difference will stock tires make.

I just recently bought my first jeep. Not the drive train package that I wanted but for the price I can more then live with it. Basically it will be a run around vehicle as I have a company car that I drive. I might be losing it so I bought this jeep just in case (I told my wife the same story). Anyway it has 265-75-R15 on it and it is a 2.5/auto. The guy I bought it from said it lost at least half of its power if not more when he went to these tires (stock gearing). Since I won't be doing any off roading or crawling or anything like that I would rather it drive a little better then have the bigger tires. Has anybody ever gone from stock tires to this size that can tell me how big of a difference it will be? I love these wheels on the jeep and don't want to go back to a stock size if it doesn't make much difference. I don't know how wide these wheels are so I don't know if I could go to a small enough tire to get the stock power back and keep these wheels? Just not sure what to do. I don't really want to re gear either I would prefer to keep things stock. So if this was yours would you leave it as is, keep these wheels and try a smaller tire (if it gains some power) or just go to a stock size aluminum wheel and some 215 75's or 225 75's or something like that. And yes I am going to paint the flares when I get a break in the weather.

Take a ruler and measure your rim width. The tires you have now are equivalent to 31x10.5, and a 225x75 is only going to be 8.86" wide, so I'm not so sure they'll work on your current wheels. I'm guessing they are 8" wide. But there's lots I don't know

As far as the flares go, I haven't tried it yet, but I am going to when it gets warm enough.... I have read that Penetrol works wonders on faded plastic...

Good looking Jeep, congrats. Don't forget to wave

If I went to a 225 75 would I gain some power back?

Yes, because you would be reducing weight and rolling resistance.

With it being a 2.5 auto, your not going to gain a whole lot back, but the stock tires will somewhat help your MPG's, maybe gain you 1-2 better.
