is it ok to put 1 new tire with 3 old ones?

so i have a damn nail in the sidewall of one of my dunlop mud rover 32 11.50... i dont really wanna buy 4 brand new tires right now, would it be ok to buy one brand new one and run it with the 3 old ones? the old ones are probably half worn... the guy at 4wheel store said it should be alright since i dont have lockers.. what you dudes think? thanks

I dont think it would be a problem. Isnt that the same thing as running the spare?

You will be fine. As for your diff exploding, not going to happen due to a slightly smaller tire or bigger tire of the same size. And even if you had a locker you could adj the air pressure between the locked tires so the tire height was close. Hell I ran with a detroit and Swamper and those tires never had the same air pressure in them... one could be at 25psi and the other at 10psi..no issues at 70mph.

you'll be good the only time when it isnt okay is when you have one way directional tire with 3 tires that are all directional not sure if this made sense
