JK 2011 - Switch from stock tires 255/75/17 to 225/75/16

Hi,

I switch yesterday my stock tires 255/75/17 (32" Mud-Terrain) to 225/75/16 (which I believe are stock tires as well) because I wanted better gas mileage and better stability while driving.

The result is excellent, it's like a new jeep!
(I even have power on the 6th gear)

But... speedo is off by 10 km and the RPM is wrong (it seems like it kept the settings from the stock 32")

I was told by the dealer that I could switch between stock tires without a problem and the speedo would not be affected...

Is the dealer wrong? Do I need an AEV Procal to change the setting to stock tires 225/75/16.

My plan is to run the 225/75/16 during the summer and the 32" during winter.

Thank you for your help.

the aev procal can't narrow down the exact specs of the tires. it will calibrate the height of the tire and match it up to your gearing and it will adjust shift points (auto) according to your inputs.

the way we measure the tire for aev inputs is not by manufacturer tire specs, but by taking a measuring tape and measuring the tire when its mounted on the vehicle.

ok thank you.
If I don't make the change with the aev procal and run with my 225/75/16 on the settings of the 32" will it damage the Jeep? Will it be bad on gas mileage?

It seems that the aev procal is more important to auto transmission than manual
(I have a manual transmission).
Because I can live with the speedo not being accurate and RPM revving a little more.
(and tire pressure light)

Any other issues I should know before making this decision?

Thanks

If ur ok with it, then it's not needed. It will not affect ur mpg nor ur speedo as much as a bigger tire size will. I was ok when I upgraded from stock 16 steelies to 285/70/17. I have a manual and speedo was off by just a few. I purchased it to get rid of my annoying tire sensor gauge.
