Just how bad are the stock Goodyear Wrangler SR-A OEM tires?

I plan to order a Wrangler Sport S and am curious if the stock SR-A tires are decent for winter driving. (rain, ice, snow). I'm not too concerned about their off road capability.

The Tire Rack reviews aren't that inspiring.

I love the Bridgestone Dueller AT Revo II's on my truck. Do they perform well on a Wranglers?

Any recommendations on the best non dedicated winter tires using the stock 17" wheels?

Thanks

SRA's, on the road, they ain't bad. In the mud, they ain't good, ok in loose sand and dirt.
Couldn't wait to get rid of mine and get something larger, wider and more aggressive. Running 285/70/17 Nitto's now, but they're getting to the end of their useful life span. Switching over to Duratracs a very good all around aggressive A/T.

My Wrangler SRA's are coming off tomorrow and on goes the Wrangler Territories (very similar to the Duratracs and are made exclusively for Canadian Tire)

I had the Territories on my Cherokee and loved them. They are a little loud but nothing like having piece of mind when you go off road a distance. I had two flats in one day with P rated tires and to top it all off, I had my son (6 at the time) with me in the middle of nowhere!

No, the only thing wrong with them is that they are dangerous in the rain. I've driven RWD and 4WD vehicles all my life. I've NEVER had a tire slip and spin as badly as these tires on wet roads. I'm downright scared of them, and they are fairly new too (bought my Jeep used). They are coming off before the winter even really starts, I am not running these in the snow, no way.

PS. Don't believe me, look at the ratings online. I'm far from the only one with this opinion.

I initiated mine the other day in some SoFlo sand ruts without airing down, the SRAs were not very grabby.

If I keep this rubber will I have issues airing these down with the sidewalls being what they are? I can't see 2/3 air-down with these, maybe 20 lbs.

These were stock on my wife's '07 Patriot 215/65/17s and they weren't bad in the wet, but were too skinny to float, had to go up two sizes and live with the rub.

The SRAs are gone and maybe even sold to a bud for his Explorer.

Nitto Terra Grapplers in a 265/70/17, so I lose a bit of diameter but gain some width to the edge of the flares.

Honestly when I was invited to hit a trail yesterday, I was worried. Naturally. these tires are pretty low tier. But let me tell you, NEVER did it get stuck yesterday or really even worry about my performance after I went thru some crap. I will attach the photo album below. These tires gripped all the mud, rocks, ruts and loose ground all day yesterday and never felt it slip too bad. Some side to side slip but nothing un-controlable. Now I'm not saying they are just as good as KM2 or any MT tire, but for a stock AT tire, I was floored... just my 0.02¢

Wrangler SR-As = something rubber to put around the wheels.

ST/Maxx, Duratrac seem to be the best options. The AT Revo IIs provided good traction on a 2006 Liberty I had, but seemed to wear out very quick (20,000-25,000 mi.). The ST/Maxx's from Cooper have impressed me.

Took em on a fairly intense trail system here in NC. Was impressed. Lowered them to 10psi and was on my way. But they are absolute dog sh** in rain.

I have a 2014 Wrangler "S" came with sra. I know there is somether package attached to the "s" that includes those. Good tires tho.

Woo hoo, got my Nitto Terra Grappler and ATX wheels from Brown Santa today, can't wait to get them put on and to put those SRA's in storage.

The stock tires on a JKU are one of the reasons people bash JKUs. Jeep puts on the tires most JKU buyers want and those are smooth riding, high miler P Series tires with Road Hazard and Mileage Warranties. The demographic driving Wrangler sales is no longer the off road Jeep fanatic. It is soccer Moms & Dads looking for a cool car to drive everyday.

Just got the Nitto's installed, and wow what a difference in the rain. Raining today and at an uphill stop sign where the SRA's always spun, no spin from the Nitto's. Awesome.

The real problem with the SRA's is in the wet. Brutal.

I've got no complaints with my SRAs and have 21K on them. Did fine in snow and rain. I drive to the road conditions so I'm not trying to go 70mph in now or rain. Went off road once with them and they did ok. That being said, I did a 2.5" lift and am saving up for 33" Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx for my stock rims so I can feel a tad more comfortable off road.

Me either, but I expect for my rear end to not kick out when making a slow sweeping turn in second gear while applying moderate throttle with wet roads. I had that happen at least 3 times over the 2 months I had the SRA's. No heavy throttle, no doing 70mph in the rain, no crazy driving. In fact it happened turning into my Home Depot parking lot. It was then I knew they had to come off.

Obviously we have different opinions of them and that's cool, however there are tons of reviews on The Tire Rack that share the same opinion as me. I'm glad you are ok with them, that's great for you.
