lower cost good quality tire recommendations 305 40R22

Hi,

I bought a 4 dr JK several years ago with Nitto's on it. It's time to buy new tires and the $300/per tire cost is killin' me. Are there any other lower cost options out there for a 305 40 R22. Apparently the 22s are the kicker. Whats the difference between all terrain and street tires. I live in Las Vegas so don't have the elements. Thanks

Since you probly don't go off road...22's!! Street tires would be great. If they are more expensive than all terrain, go A/T. A/T's would probly wear faster but may start with twice the tread depth? Have you found many 22" A/Ts???

i go off road every now and then but bought the jeep with the 22's because it looked cool. anyway, won't street tires look goofy on a jeep? then i'll really get made fun of. lol anyway, the A/T tires on it are Nitto. the only other A/T choice is Toyo which is just as expensive. So..... the street tires will last longer or the A/Ts? the guy at the shop told me the opposite. lmk. thanks for the info!

You've got a set of 22" wheels on a primarily offroad rig, and you're worried about being made fun of for running street tires?

Does not compute...

you are very limited to offroad tires. and out of all the tires listed...i wouldn't choose any of them. dune grappler/terra grapplers are notoriously loud, toyo at1 tread life sucks, cooper zeon...it looks like a hybrid of street/all terrain tire.

305/40/22

nitto dune grappler - msrp 348
nitto terra grappler - msrp 324
toyo AT1 - msrp 314
cooper zeon - msrp 264

prices are based on my local shop. you can get them cheaper if you shop around, hence the *msrp.

Ok. The street tires probly don't start with more than 9 or 10 32's of an inch of tread. The A/T's probly have 16 or more 32's of an inch. He's thinking more tread, longer life.

you wouldn't choose any of them? then what would you recommend? it looks like i'm going to get made fun of for having 22s so I might as well get street tires, huh?

dune grapplers are loud (but i don't know about their tread life)

nitto terra grapplers are loud too... personal experience from my cousin/friends. their tread life pretty much sucks as well.

Toyo AT1 have a bad rep of tread life. think of the nitto terra grapplers. nitto is an American Toyo brand.

and the Cooper LTZ's design...by just looking at it, it screams loud.

out of the 4, i wouldn't recommend any of the above. if noise wasn't an issue, i would choose the terra grapplers or the toyo at1...whichever is cheaper. noise/tread life are the achilles heel of those two, but other than that, they perform at an average level when it comes to offroading.

In my experience, the Cooper Zeon's are great tires and look aggressive, I had them on my 4wd Yukon 275/55/20.
