Need help with tires

I need to replace tires on my 98 Jeep Wrangler. I will need to keep the stock rims but I want to put on some beefer tires. I am confused about the tires and wheels sizes. I understand the 225/70/15 means 225m wide by 70% as thick on a 15" rim. I get confused when it 30x8 or something like that. I don't under stand how this relates to the first set of numbers imprinted on the tires. So I am asking for some suggestions. You guys know what looks good. Bulky treaded tire rather fat and wide with white letters. I know that sounds so non technical but help! I want to get some nice tires. Thanks

Your 225/70/15 is a 27.5x9x15 tire. Tires are measured two different ways. One metric, one standard. Most cars have metric, but in the jeep world, most have standard. Metric Tire Conversion Calculator - Red Rock 4x4 Thats the website I use to do the conversions. You should be able to get 31's under there, but I'm sure other people will chime in.

Are they mainly for off road or is this your daily driver and you are looking for a beefy tire with road manners?
