Stupid tire size question

My dads jeep has tires marked as 31x10.5 but they are only about 29" in diameter.

What gives?

that happens.. tires are rarely exact to what they are marked.. all though 2 inches is alot for a tire to be off.. could you be measuring it wrong? Are the tires new or used.

The only brand I have seen that is consistant with the markings is Interco.

The spare is unused. We measured it to get a reading without weight.

Still show about 29. I can understand it being off but 2 inches sounds nuts.

The good news is that he is offering to buy my true 31s when I upgrade to 33s shortly.
