Tire Size Help!!

I'm getting ready to lift my 2012 Wrangler Sport Unlimited by 2.5" and looking for the right tire size to go with that lift. I want something that has an aggressive look but good road ride. The majority of my driving is on the road, and don't want to be buying tires every 20K. Stock Jeep tires now (255 / 75R / 17), getting new American Racing Rims AR901's 17" in Black. considering something around a 285 (but not much more diameter) or a 305 or 315 (which jumps me up to around 2 more inches in diameter). I'm not comfortable with the wheel well spacing on the larger sized tires with a 2" lift so looking for some expertise in this arena. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I'm doing the same as you. Just purchased a Teraflex 2.5" lift last night. I am going with Nitto Trail Grappler 35/12.50/R17 tires on Rugged Ridge black satin wheels. I picked up the Teraflex HD hinged tire carrier as well to handle the additional weight of the tire. I personally think the 2.5" lift and 35's are a great looking combination.

also, I'm installing an AEV geometry correction bracket and the Teraflex monster HD forged adjustable track bar (both to give me better on-road driving)

since your vehicle is a 2012, you "may" need an exhaust spacer.. something I've read bout on the forums, and don't forget a Flash Cal to reprogram your rid to compensate for the larger tires.

285/70/17 will look good on a 2.5. The best Mileage hands down got to be the p285/70/17 toyo at2 rated at 65k miles.

Thanks to both of you for the great advice! With the bigger tires are there any worries about offset? Do I need to get spacers?

Offset is not the concern. 4.5 backspacing or less due to the bigger size tires. Stock wheels have a higher backspacing and if paired up with bigger tires, expect rubbing, hence 4.5 or lower bs.
