Exclamation Tire size???? Width? Help!

Okay, so I just bought a 1993 wrangler 4 cylinder. The guy i bought it from just installed 33 inch firestone all terrains on it. They are brand new and he only put about 50 miles on them. My friend who is a mecanic told me these tires are too big and I needed to drop down to at least a 31 inch tire. Here's my question, The rims are Black Rock 15 x 10. What size tires would you guys recommend? and should i get new rims also? The jeep has a 3 inch lift if this helps at all. any help would be appreciated

My friend has a three inch lift and he is running 33 but his jeep is a 99. He has bf goodrich km2's and they don't rub. I'm running 31's on a two and a half inch lift and they only rub when making Sharp turns. U should be fine

I agree, with a 3 inch lift I would think that you would be fine running the 33's...Now 35's that would be a completely different story...

No, the problem with the 33's is that its a 4 cylinder

If you like the way it drives, keep it. If not, change something. the 4cyl is underpowered as is so adding over size tires makes it more of a dog than it already is. Your options if you don't like it would be to buy some new wheels and tires, or regear your axles to put the ratio back to stock.

^^^ This.

Gotta admit, it pleases me to see non-JK peeps struggle with power/gearing/tire size issues from time to time.

deanchesson those tires look pudgy and sweet.

on a 15x10 in rim a 12.5in wide tire is pretty much as small as you want to go.. I guess you could get away with a 11.5 in wide tire but I wouldn't try it. For your size lift 33x12.5/15's are perfect.. If you like you can upgrade your rear axle then regear to bring yourself back to stock power levels

Yes, those are absolutely the wrong size. Your jeep is going to EXPLODE at any moment!!!! No seriously though, your mechanic friend is probably referring to your gearing. Stock AMC 2.5s came with 4.10s, which will not suffice for 33" tires (unless you like having no power ). Throw some 4.88s in there and be done with it.
