I'm looking at purchasing a new 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport. It comes with 16 inch rims with 225 70 16 tires. Can I swap those out for the 17" aluminum Jeep wheels with the P255/75R17 OWL on/off road tires that are on the upgraded Sport models? Do you have to do any modification to the Jeep or will it accept those without any problems. And what should I expect to pay for 5 of those tires and wheels from the dealer? Thinking maybe I'll just get new tires and wheels from Discount Tire. May be a lot cheaper. Thanks for your feedback!
Nothing is needed to swap out the wheels.. Keep in mind before you spend a chunk of change on them that if you want to step up to a wider tire later you will need new wheels with less backspace or wheel spacers to fit them. Plenty if slightly used sets of both 17" and 18" Moabs and tires available in the for sale sections and eBay and CL
Going along with InfernoGirl. You way want to future proof your wheels incase there is some modding in yoru future. What are your plans for you Jeep at this point? If a lift an bigger tires are in them then look into 8-9in wide wheels with a back spacing of 4.5 or smaller so you dont rub when you lift and put new tires on.
Can you put on wider rims and tires from stock without spacers or is some modification needed?
