What does offset backspacing and other tire lingo mean???

I have a 2003 tj and I have a 4 inch skyjacker lift and I want 33x12.50r15 to go with it but I don't know what backspacing or offset is so I just need some help thanks

Back spacing is the distance from the mounting surface of the rim to the back edge of the rim. The smaller the backspace the further the rim sticks out from under the fender. Offset I do believe is the amount from the center of the rim in one direction or the other, depending on whether the rim is sticking out or tucking in under the fender.

You want between 3.75" and 4.25" of backspacing. The smaller the number the wider the stance.
