Wheel trade offs, what you lose and gain?

Newbie here pretty overwhelmed by the amount of information in the forums (seems like every one really knows their jeep, im probably the only utter clueless and jeep-less sod in here !)

So my question is this, basically tires are grouped together for certain characteristics, e.g, Mud, AT, Snow, etc...

Each type is suited for well what its made for, however i am unable to understand what each tire will sacrifice to gain the advantage in its specific field, specially AT tires (which seem to be the major player).

I am sorting things out and waiting for the new 2012 to start getting assembled in Egypt and i aim to go sand dunning, does that mean i have to invest in sand tires (and rims) or can i get away with AT tires that are suitable for sand? And if so any particular recommendations?

I would go with the widest AT I could possibly stuff under there.

for you BFG ATs in the 33 or 35 12.5 flavor they are hands down the best over the counter sand tire you can get for the money. I like the BFG Projects better but those are not a tire you can get easily

Thanks does the tread have any effect on sand ?

Also i dont think the BFG tires are sold in Egypt ..... :S i will try to contact Jeep club Egypt to get some info from them. They do a lot of safari so hopefully they could help out ...
