It could be your clock spring. It is in your steering wheel. You should be able to hook up a scan tool to it and check to see what code you got. If it is a code like "open in squib circuit" it is probably your clock spring. I see this problem a lot in gaswell truck because they do a lot of offroading like us. What can happen is when you hit bumps or whatever, that clock spring can brake from bouncing around too much.

Thank you for posting a clear-cut answer to an equally clear question. My mind is at ease now, knowing that the airbag light being on isn't necessarily life-threatening. The beep is a little annoying though.

You have sensors in the seats. Possible a bad sensor or wire in the passenger seat?

I considered that, kjeeper10. The problem seems to happen when there are two people in the car. We just picked it up on Monday and on the drive home, the airbag light came on then went off, several times during the trip. So at first we thought maybe it was telling us to turn on the passenger-side airbag, but it already was.

You're saying there could be a bad sensor in the passenger seat maybe? Does that mean the airbag warning light won't come one if no one is sitting in the passenger's seat?

Did you ever resolve your problem? It just happened to me, although my horn is still working and no other problems have shown up yet? I'm wondering if the dealership will be able to tell me "accurately" one way or another if it's the clock spring.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

I had the same problem - it came on when were driving on a trail. Took it to the dealer - it was the clockspring. It was covered under my extended warranty.

I think Iíve read somewhere that there's a TSB or recall for some of the earlier model years for the clockspring?

Just got back from dealership. Dropped it off this morning. It was the clock spring and was covered under an extended warranty because it was /is a widespread issue.
