I was wondering the same thing, I know that jeep issued a service bulletin for the 07 model to correct this.. I wanna know if the problem is fixed on the 08 so i can order one A.S.A.P
All jeep tops leak. Its just a matter of "to what extent do they leak?" Heck Chrysler cant even build a vehicle with an attached roof that doesnt leak. The new patriots have serious leaking issues and you cant even take their tops off.

Wow thats just sad. I can see where its a soft-top leak, but a car thats not convertible...thats just not acceptable.
PS: I was reading up on Lemon Law, wouldn't a car be considered a lemon if the roof is leaking and they cant fix it?
This is from PA Lemon Law "The nonconformity SUBSTANTIALLY impairs the use, market value, or safety of the car" - water is leaking inside the door and car, impairing "market value(door will rust), and sefety(water could short the wires)" or the car.
I have an 08 sahara 2 door... dual tops.. winter time i leave on the hard top so that i can use the rear defrost when i am snow plowing, with all the snow and rain in the last couple days I have had no leaks and its been outside the whole time... so far so good...
it leaks when you dont put it on right I have read alot of forms and they all have the same problem.I dont remember which one but you have to put one side on first and then the other and make sure it has a good seal
It leaks anyway you put it. I did everything by manual, took it to dealer "Roof leak professional" tried it, i tried closing one side, then the other first, then both together, NOTHING FIXES it. They ****ed up on the door molding design, and new roof. If you look at TJ how the soft-top overlaps the door, and then look at JK, you'll know what i'm talking about.
My 07 Unlimited hard top had a few drips on the dash when new. Took off 2 sections and reinstalled. No leaks in over 8 months - rain and snow. If mine is included in the all figure, they don't all leak.
As an owner of an 08 Wrangler X, owning both the Freedom Top and the Rag Top, I can speak with some experience about this...
All over this country, Chrysler is faced with a massive disaster called the "Freedom Top."
-It leaks as all t-tops do, yes.
-The recommended chrysler gasket fix, doesn't stop it (in fact the leaking got worse).
-The "Lemon Law" DOES apply. (Electronics within the new vehicles can't withstand soaking).
-The Freedom Top HAS to be able to flex with the vehicle, and the leaking is caused by water sitting in the channels, that leaks in when the top flexes. It is NOT water coming directly in, during a rainstorm.
jeepluver1956: You'll find as many posts saying "my T-Top doesn't leak", (me included) as the posts that say "they all leak". It's confusing to say the least. Read as much as you can, and go with your gut feeling. Saw a T-shirt once that said, "If it has tires or testicles, it WILL give you problems."
"Flexing" is the issue, not necessarily something that can be fixed, on any vehicle with a split top or "t" top. As the body gives, the water in the channels comes in.
Ultimately, it is not necessarily the "Freedom Top" itself that is the problem, but the fact that whenever there are creases, splits, openings, gaps, there will be penetration.
At least with a Rag Top, you have a solid top surface, (not that it can't leak in other ways I suppose, and at least it overlaps the body and isn't raining in from overhead, (unless someone has taken a utility knife to it.....lol).
I was told today by my dealership that the Freedom Tops that they're seen leak are the ones on the 4doors - not the 2doors - we'll see(I just ordered a 2 door).
mine is an o8 wrangler x ( 2 door) its nothing but luck of the draw they have no idea what will or will not leak mine is going back and i ordered the 4 door this time another 6 weeks or so and ill let you know ive been friends with the salesman at my dealer for 20 yrs. if nothing else hes honest with me he told me before i ordered the first 2 door in sept 07 that there were problems and no data to tell which was better so roll the dice and hope its not snake eyes i wish you ( and myself) luck
My 2008 4 door leaked. Dealer tried 4 times to adjust/repair the problem but it still leaked. After I registered my Jeep as a lemon, they agreed to take it back, give me a soft top, and to refund the option price I paid.
I took the whole top off, used an impact screw gun (I think that is the correct term) when I took the back off and reinstalled the back (actually my hubby did it while I drank the last beer he likes fussing over it for me, so I sit back and let him) he made sure to line everthing up when he re-installed it and rescrewed it in the same way you kind of would put on a tire, going back and forth instead of one side then the other. Had to put the front tops on in a hurry latter in the day, but did follow the proper order of what to latch first. No leaks.
I do have a two door also, I could see where you'd have more trouble with the four door.
If you can afford it go with both tops. I had to fight with the dealer,I didn't want to pay an extra grand for the soft top, we actually asked for the keys back on what we were gonna trade in and were gonna walk out. They played their games and I got the soft top, not totally for free but close enough. Made them give me the tow package, which I did have to pay for but I insisted on not paying for installation, and we saw a set of really neat floor mattes that had jeep tread on them inside a four door model they had on the floor and I insisted on those too, had my sales guy pull them out and stick them in mine!
When we were dumb and young, we got royally screwed on a vehicle. I've made every dealer pay for it since. I am just not a nice customer. But then, as a female, I've had too many sales people treat me like a moron, one stupid comment and I'll walk. My jeep salesguy was great, the sales manager was a big jerk. Was in Schaumburg and I think he sized us up as a couple of dumb hicks....I still forget that you are suppose to put on your best jewelry and dress up when you go out to spend an assload of money.
I should add that I am pretty easy going and easy to get along with in most every other situation. I just don't do well with car dealers or at the grocery store (okay, basically I am not nice when ever I go into someplace that wants me to bend over so add service repair places and I suppose you have to add the gas station too!):bottom:
I just picked up my new Jeep - 2008 X -2dr Freedome Top yesterday. I rained yesterday and didn't stop till this morning - the inside is still dry.
