09 won't start please help

"I have a 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited sometimes when I turn the key it cranks but it doesn't start, other times it starts right away. I have read online that if I put the shifter in neutral it will start, which has worked. But what causes this to happen?"

When you say "crank" does it crank and not start or simply click once?

OK, crank but not start isn't the same as click and no start (which I had).

Not sure the fix for crank no start, sorry.

I have the click, no start. The battery and all the electronics work fine, but the it sometimes will just click and not start. Other times, it starts right up.

What was wrong with yours?

If it clicks and doesn't start and you have an automatic, and you put it in Neutral and it does start then that's the problem I had. The Dealer replaced my Transmission Range Sensor (a fancy Neutral Safety Switch). Others have run better grounds and have had success.

I have the EXACT same problem with my 2007 Rubicon. I've only owned it for 3 weeks, and it has spent 2 1/2 weeks in the shop trying to diagnose/fix problem. Afer the engine fan and started were replaced, the battery terminals checked, and a few other things I think we have it narrowed down to the Neutral Safety Switch. It is in the shop now hopefully getting the sensor fixed.
My jeep would act up the most when it was really hot outside, or if I had been driving for a while and the engine was hot.
Have your mechanic check this sensor before they recommend replacing engine parts
good luck!
