10 minute old Rubicon already an issue!

Hey guys just picked up a 2015 leftover Rubicon with 50 miles on it and already an issue! I picked the jeep up 2 hours from my house and I noticed the radio buttons didn't work on delivery and I thought "no biggie" as I'm driving I realize I have no blinkers or lights.... So none of the steering wheel controls work- wipers, cruise, blinkers, cruise, horn, etc.

I can't find a dedicated fuse for this but I thought I might be missing something. I check the connection I could see, adjusted the wheel and turned the car on and off.

Thanks for any advice!

Welcome to the forum, sorry to hear your having problems. I would check the battery connections. After that, as ADee said, take it back. Call the person you worked with at the dealership and they will get it taken care of.

Real sorry to read about your problems. I know what you're feeling. My very first new car, had such issues. I left the dealer thinking it was OK, but when I tried to make my very first left turn, I found out the left directional didn't work. From that, I found that the horn didn't work, and so on.

No one common failure, that I can think of, would cause all that. At first, I thought that possibly the clock spring failed, but that would not affect the lights, and wipers.

Though, having said that, a "stuck" radio button on the steering wheel could be confusing the radio enough that it would appear to not be working too.

As the others have said, I would turn right around and return back to the selling dealer and raise holy-hell that their new car delivery prep didn't catch all these things. No other dealer would be responsible for this prep.

Honestly love the Jeep and to me not an issue to raise that big of a deal. I'm sure it's something they can fix in 5 minutes. This is not my primary car and I'm pretty laid back so will get it fixed and move on. I was just hoping someone might have a quick fix!

That being said it is mind boggling they didn't check it out before delivery!

^^^ Agreed. They are suppose to do a pre inspection before delivery and after them missing all that makes me think they just checked the boxes but didn't actually perform the tests.

Look at your pre delivery inspection sheet and if they checked off that all was ok then they'd be caught in a lie as they are suppose to test some of the features you said are not working.

Not to pick on you, but you should always go over a new vehicle with a fine tooth comb as best you can before taking possession. I found two scratches on my hood that were identical on each side of the hood. Not sure if it happened during shipment or what, but it was odd they looked like J's and in the same spot on the sides. The dealer documented it while we were going over the car and I just brought it back to get it repainted. The sales guy said make sure you check it good before leaving. There's a reason for that, because paint issues like scratches are almost impossible to have fixed by the dealer after you leave. There's always the argument that you scratched it after you left. I had a similar problem on a new Camaro I bought. Two days after I had it, a buddy of mine is checking out the high performance tires and finds a gouge in the rear one. The next day I'm back at the dealer wanting it replaced. They were like how do we know you didn't hit something. Cutting to the chase, I had to escalate it to GM to get it replaced for free. Dealer's beef was they would have to eat the cost of the new tire. I was able to show that their tire dressing was covering the missing chunk of tire and if I did it, there would not have been dressing on it. Still took two weeks to get it resolved waiting on the GM service rep to pay a visit to the dealer.

It was 5 degrees at pickup so I will say I cut a corner or 2 lol. I'm laid back when it comes to "escalating things" but I still checked every panel and gap for dents, scratches or overspray. Even open every door, hood, etc and rub them for obvious overspray. I don't want you to think I'm a knucklehead. i have had paint problems like you mentioned so when I bought my previous car I thought I noticed overspray so I had the sales guy let me hit the entire car with a paint meter. I even go through the extra step when I drop my car off for service of shooting a short video of my car before leaving it at the dealer to keep them honest.

Controls on a wheel I bet turn out to be a jack or something.... If it's bigger I'm 1 person/friend away from Sergio Marchionne via a friend so if I chose to drop a hammer I can lol.

According to what is written at the bottom of that pic, you have the official owner GUIDE. The owner MANUAL has a lot more pages. You can go online and order a free hard copy or you can also download one at the link previously posted by someone else.

Online Ordering of Materials (at no charge)

If you are the original owner of the vehicle, you can order a printed copy of the Owner's Manual and other glove box materials at no charge.

First thing I would do is disconnect and reconnect the battery. Occasionally I have some of those same issues with turn signals and lights not working and a battery reset fixes it every time.
Mike I just went outside, excited by your post and not deterred by the temps... Unfortunatly no dice on the battery disconnect!

Congrats on the new addition and don't forget to Jeep wave. Before you left the dealership, the dealer should have set up your satellite radio...which would have shown horn that the radio wasn't working. I would bring it back to the dealership that should have done it's job right and raise hell till they are giving you some free oil changes or swag for your troubles.

Go somewhere where you won't be a bother to others and turn the wheel all the way one way and then honk the horn. Turn the wheel the other way all of the way and honk the horn. Straighten the wheel and then honk the horn.

The first 'honk' may be sufficient.

I understand that this may sound like I am joking, yet I am not. IIRC my head unit and the controls on the steering wheel have become unresponsive three times in three years and this honking treatment has 'fixed' the issue each time.

Sounds like the Jeep is still in transport mode. Check that the IOD fuse is installed.

Thanks guys! Going to check the IOD fuse and will download the manual. Can you believe I emailed the sales rep and left him a voicemail at 3pm and didn't hear a word back?! I'm assuming Jeep salesman get a CSI kicker so u would think the guy would want to protect his bonus! That being said I'm blown away at how much better the interior materials are in the Jeep, the soft top material and the Alpine speakers actually sound pretty good stock. Now I'm comparing this to my best
Friends Jeep from high school which was a 1990. That being said the shifter throws in my 2015 are almost identical to my 1972 Cutlass convertible! Seriously it's like there is an M22 Rockcrusher in there!

I'm pretty sure it's something simple and kudos for a great attitude about it, but sounds like you really had a piss poor salesman. It was about 10 degrees out last winter when I picked mine up and my salesman spent at least a half hour outside with me going over everything, even mundane stuff like turn signals, wipers, heater controls, SAT radio, paired mine and my wife's I-phone, showed me where the jack was and pointed out important things under the hood, etc. Nothing I couldn't have done myself but I appreciated being able to do such a thorough final check before I drove off. We also did a thorough walk-around looking for paint defects, etc. Every dealer should insist on having the salesman perform these final checks with the customer, it would probably save irate returns and it really encourages return customers in my book.

Completely agree with Bob.
Was cold the day I picked mine up last Jan 2015 but they had it tucked inside the drive-thru Service Center area so we could go through it in warmth.

Look in your fuse box lay-out under the lid to see whats supposed to be in position J10.

Sounds kinda crazy but other people with similar steering wheel control problems have reported that hitting the steering wheel hard at the 2pm location got things working again. Others reported a battery disconnect for 15 to 20 minutes also helped certain people. Doesn't sound fuse related if the actual radio works but not steering wheel controls.
