Hey gus and gals,

I was about to pull the trigger on a 2013 Wrangler unlimited 10 year anniversary Jeep. However, I read that the 2014 Wrangler might have significant upgrades, such as 8 speed transmission, larger nav screen (8" or so?), back up camera, etc. Anybody know the specifics on the 2014? I love the red seats on the 10 year model though. Thanks :)

Sorry, when I read your original post I thought you said you already bought the 10A. If you haven't already purchased then, at this late of a point, you are probably better off just waiting to see the 2014's since they are so close.

Those upgrades (8 spd, improved nav, etc.) are available for the 2014 Grand Cherokee, so I think a lot are assuming the Wrangler could get them as well. As far as I know there hasn't been an official release with the changes yet (just speculation) but with order banks potentially opening up next month, info should be available soon.

I just placed my 10a order on Saturday after debating on the same. While it's a short-sighted reason, I went with the 10a because I can take delivery next month as opposed to (estimated) September for a 2014 and enjoy the the summer with it before the snow starts to fall around here... and I'm not convinced there will be significant changes to make the wait worth it.

Good luck!

I also just took delivery of a 10A and had this same debate.

In terms of the risk carried ordering now instead of waiting....
Best case:
The 10A keeps its unique hood/bumpers and the 2014 is just a slightly upgraded (and higher priced) 2013 rubicon.

Worst case:
The 2014 has all of the options of the 10A as well as improved fuel efficiency, better body design, diesel option, etc. But this also would come with potential for new problems with such drastic changes.

Either way I could always trade and be out a few thousand as a result. For me it was worth taking the risk on the 10A being unique as well as having something this summer to enjoy. I do not believe a 2014 redesign is likely based on everything I know now, but I could be wrong.

I expect the redesign to happen in 2016 at which point I might trade in - or I might not. In the meantime I am havng fun!

I know in my case I"m not picky - at all. Little tidbits of convenience mean nothing to me. The only way I would wait for a new model is for something massive was coming, like a new engine or a complete redesign.

So with that being said, I'd get the 10A if I were you. I honestly think it is one of the_baddest_SUVs I have ever seen, and I'm a big fan of many types of SUVs. You simply can't go wrong with it. It's a Rubicon with an in-your-face 10A design on top of it. It just doesn't get better than that.

8 speed/diesel

:dance:Hi, I don't think you will see a 8 speed auto in 2014 however I feel you may see the 2.8 diesel for 2014, I got a early brocure and it did show
the 2.8 CRD 197 hp with 460 ft pounds of torque. Looks like 2014 will
be another great year for JEEP....I will be ready to order jeep number #7.:thumb: Just not sure what color to get?? :whistling: Oh what a problem..

That is some serious torque.

I got this from the 2013 wrangler information thread.

May will be the last month for dealers to order 2013Wrangler/Wrangler Unlimited for stock/dealer inventory. You can place a sold order thru the first week of June.

2014 Wrangler is a carry over. Nothing new other than some colors and a few special editions.

I could NOT place an order for a '13 today. They are closed out for the year, need to wait until June to put my '14 order in. :( Really wanted it by the Fourth of July, just hope and pray they have colors that I actually want. Flame Red please!

Order what you want !!!

funny how Jeep consitanly makes changes every year, which is a good thing.
back late in 2010 I did the same thing. looked for a 2010 could not find what I wanted and ordered a 2011 the way I wanted.

then in they made changes in 2012, and now in 2013, I am sure the 2014's will also be awesome.

I was looking at a 10th anniversary Rubicon, on Friday. My local dealer was ready to write me a check for my wrangler, If I placed an order for a new one. I opt'd to wait another year. I have my 11 the way I want it and still only about 20K miles on her....

the BEST thing is with a Wrangler(JEEP) you cannot loose. with the resale value and how you can make it your own..

PS. I love the new 10A bumpers, I want'em

I don't see these options as being upgrades.

If you spend too much time worrying about what will happen tomorrow, you will miss the present.

Unless there was concrete evidence about what was going to come out with the 2014s, I would order now, especially if you were seriously considering a 10A. The worst case scenario is that the 2014 is a radical redesign (not likely) and you have to decide whether or not to trade in a few-month-old Jeep for the new one; at the worst, it costs you a few thousand dollars. If you were not set on the 10A or do not feel compelled to order now, then wait - only you can decide that part.

Also, as someone else mentioned, I would not necessarily want to be an early adopter of a radical redesign. Give it 6 - 12 months and let everyone else shake out the issues with a complete redesign.

I bought a 10A. I took delivery about 6 weeks ago. No regrets what so ever! I don't expect anything ground breaking in Jeep design until the major re-design which should be 2016......possibly 2015. I say this because the Wrangler model life cycle is about 10 years. And, the current model is very popular.

I love my Jeep! Pull the trigger and order that 10A. You'll be glad you did. :D

2014 will likely see some different colors and options. I don't want an 8 speed and think the current AT is awesome...smooth and perfect. The build options are already being trimmed down. See if you can get 4.10 gears with auto tranny...see if you can get uconnect with the 130 stereo. IMO the 10A trumps a 14MY even if they offer the same bumpers and hood on a future special model. Think long term on the 10A. The big changes will be on the next refresh.

I personally would never buy first production year. Too many potential problems to show up after production starts. IMO
This..... I would never buy a refresh year, I wait till the next year when most of the issues resolved then pick one up....

:wavey:
Hi guys, brand new here on the forum and to the JK world. My situation is *kind of* relevant. I apologize if this post belongs best in a different thread.

I placed an order for a 2013 JKUR last Friday (5/17) configured as follows:
Options:
Max Tow
4.1 Ratio
Connectivity Group
Supplemental Airbags

Dealer says 5-6 weeks before it's on the lot, which puts me somewhere around the very end of June. At this point, should I just be patient and wait for the 14's?

The only thing I'm not 100% sold on is the color. I ordered Brilliant White because Dune and Commando just seemed *ever so slightly* off when I saw them in person. After some casual negotiation on paper, the dealer has flexed to about 1.5% below invoice. I live in Southern CA, if it's relevant.

:punk:

the white is awesome looking with the black hard top. The dune and commando green aren't "really" official colors for the 10A, although I posted in another thread that you could "build" one on the jeep.com site. The official colors for the 10A are Anvil, Billet, Black and White.

Considering that over the last three years Jeep has updated the interior, engine and transmission and how well the Wrangler is selling I don't see a lot of incentive for big changes. Upgraded navigation/audio maybe. The rest, I don't see it. Diesel was supposed to be dependent on how well the GC sold.

Comments like this are funny. It is 2013 after all. Driving with a 35"+ tire and a raised tire carrier in your rear window. A rear view camera makes sense.

You probably don't like leather seats and electric windows either?
Believe me I know where your coming from. I consider myself a traditionalist when it comes to my old cars. (a few of my 30's era Fords have nothing newer than 1953 on them)

However if your in the market for a 2013/14 model year vehicle why get 1960's era amenities?

Progress since 1941, interrupted by "tradition".

And OP. I am in the same boat as you. Although I did order a 10A instead of coming across one at a dealer. I waited late in the year to see if the '14s would come with something like a rear view camera or better stereo. Other than that there was no tipping point for me. So in your case. I would go 10A all the way.

2014 Jeep Wrangler Product update

I work for a jeep dealer, here are the changes:

Updated 6.5inch 430 Nav screen

Updated EVIC screen ( fuel economy, digital speed, etc ) similar to other chyrsler products.

Clear lens blinker lights on front grille

Sorry/Happy to say, no powertrain changes. No 8-speed. Some new colors, special editions through out the year
