10th Anniverary throws CEL and ticks at 100 miles on the clock

My very new (bought on Saturday) 10th Anniversary Rubi threw a CEL for cylinder 2 misfire last night and another for cylinder 3 tonight. Running rough, ticking bad, low power. All of this developed between 75 miles and 125 miles on the odometer. Amazed it happened so fast - I was only on my second drive in it. Taking it to the dealer on Wednesday, wish me luck

so did I. Trying to keep my spirits up after spending $50K on a car that is going to get a major engine repair before it has 200 miles on it.

Doesn't sound like a head problem because your misfire came on the left and right bank at pretty much the same time. There's a good chance that this is a simple fix.

At least you'll get it over with quickly. Consider yourself lucky that you've got a misfire so soon and can now get the head replaced and never have to worry about symptoms of the defective head. Mine is at 8k, still no CEL and I get 13mpg on a good day.

Don't scare him away. He definitely has an AC head and has way way too few miles to exhibit the correct symptoms. This is probably a fuel delivery, spark, or computer issue. minor stuff. I'll eat my hat if they give him two new heads.

Well that just sucks! You should demand they show,you the old head and make sure it's an AC or higher. If they are still using AA heads that would be a shame!

I thought this cylinder head issue was provoked under certain conditions?

Did you check the vitals? Oil pressure, coolant temp on the EVIC?

you should probably ask them why you're getting a code on both cylinder banks? how does replacing one head fix the other code?

It will be interesting to see if he got an engine assembly from an earlier batch. They had several 10A's on quality hold for some reason. Mine delivered on time with zero issues.

Gaylon ... post up your MDH numbers on your driver door frame.

sub 100 miles is a record i think. there was a guy with a 12 that had 100 miles and a CEL and it turned out to be a non-issue. Immediate and obvious power loss is not really associated with the 2012 head problem. This may be a manufacturing defect in the head, or another issue that i mentioned before. i would question the dealer to make sure they aren't just part monkeying.

Chrysler customer care is involved now - and I am fairly sure they wouldn't want to cover a repair that there was not some warrant for. I am stopping by the dealer tomorrow and will post the MDH numbers (what are these?) tomorrow.

As to the codes, I cleared the cylinder 2, so they are probably acting as if that did not happen... I should not have cleared it... but on my Land Cruisers, that was what you did - clear it and see if it returns.

Are you a member on IH8MUD? .. Your user name looks familiar.

Btw.. MDH is the Month, Day and Hour your Jeep finished its build. The start manufaturing date is located on the top of the same label. Look at my sig... that's the sequence of numbers.. the last two digits are stated in military hours.

Don't know if you remember, I was the one who got Toyota to buy back my 2005 Land Cruiser. The welds on the stand-offs in the boxed frame were coming apart. Toyota wanted to ship a new frame from Japan and replace it at a dealer. Big thread over there many years ago.

Its been documented the right bank (driver side) runs 100 degrees hotter than the left - no wonder since the exhaust ports are integrated as headers.

Those numbers are insignificant to your Jeep ... probably a label template or form number with revision letters because they duplicate across JK's.

Well this is not good news for me, I sold my crush sport do to numerous problems and was actually looking at rubi's today, figured the head problem would be fixed by now, guess I will keep my Subaru another year. Good luck!
