For those wondering about the winch fairlead being off center in the pics posted of winches already mounted.

The primary reason for this is because, JEEP CUT THE HOLE FOR THE FAIRLEAD OFF-CENTER! That's right, the hole is over to the left side from center.

I removed my front bumper last night to remove the cover over the fairlead hole and begin fabbing a winch mount. Got slapped in the face by this surprise. I don't understand the reason for this since AEV centers their fairlead cut-out and suggest' the same Warn 9.5 CTI or CTI-S be used with their bumper.

To say the least I'm not a happy camper about this. We'll see where this leads once I mount the winch itself and determine what I'm going to do. Unless it's an alignment issue with the winch drum, I'm too OCD to put up with the fairlead looking out of whack.

Also for those wondering. A lot of the Jeep dealers and Mopar were trying to say the winch plate for the COD/Moab would work. I picked one up from the dealer to see if it might be close, with the understanding that if it didn't work I would return it. Not sure how the winch plate itself will line up, but I can tell you for sure that the fairlead plate which goes behind the bumper is a TOTAL no go, even if modded. Looks like this kit will be going back to the dealer.

After looking at the bumper cut-out, I'm going to spend a few long hours and see if I can't fab a mount and a good looking solution for the fairlead. Even if I waited on Jeep's 10A specific mount the fairlead would still be off center, so I'll start the fab process on my own it looks like.

Ugh. That would drive me nuts too. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks. Best 'surprise' about the whole thing was all of the lugs are identical and locking, with a unique, provided spline socket.

Liking the Tuffy - how was the install? Was the airbag sensor under the seat? Did you have to pull the seat?

Bracket and electrical connector for the heated seat I'm assuming, pinch pull and a T27 and it was off, zip tied it to the inside of the seat frame. Didn't do the optional drilled hole for it, seemed really sturdy with just the two seat bolts. Took a total of about 30 minutes

Are you saying that even with the 9.5cti...the fairlead and all will be off center? Is there anyway to move the fairlead right to left or is it just one size? is it like that in the pre-production pics? I wanna say that they are centered in the pics?

The elongated hole in the bumper for the fairlead is cut off center. I'll take measurements tonight and post back, but it's extremely noticeable with the naked eye. The type or brand of winch will make no difference, It's the hole in the bumper that's not centered.

I'm going to fab up a winch plate to mount the unit to the Jeep and then see what I do with the bumper. If the winch drum lines up centered in the bumper, then I'll just have to break down and do some fab work on this brand new bumper.

Details will probably be next week. This week I'm welding on the Artec front axle armor kit and the rear axle truss kit. The front axle is on the work table as we speak wire brushed, cleaned and ready for welding tonight.

And in the "If it can happen to me" catagory. I installed the Teraflex hinge on mine and of all things it was a bad one. Seems that it got warped in manufacturing or shipping. When I close the gate it lines up at the bottom but is almost a 1/4 inch out at the top and keeping the tailgate ajar light on. I called Teraflex and e-mailed pics, They shipped out a new one today to replace it, no questions asked after seeing the pics. So this will be a do over about Tuesday or Wednesday when the replacement arrives.

At least when the axles go back in, it will be with new Teraflex springs, arms and speedbumps. Yeah Buddy!

Asianhulk, the fairlead hole in the bumper is approximately 1.75 inches or a little less closer to the left crush can than the right.

I just made a quick tape pull as I'm busy on the trusses at the moment. Once I get to the winch install I'll give more accurate measurements.

Because I definitely want to lift my 10A but I'm afraid that because it's already slightly lifted the AEV 2.5" lift kit won't actually add 2.5".

I also ordered red and black plasti dip so I'll play around with that.

Other mods to come in the future will be: 35" tires
New lights
Black grill insert
Aftermarket audio

Still have to do some research to find tge best brands and models for all my mods. This whole jeep thing is new to me.
I'll ve following this thread and tge 10A thread closely to get some ideas.

First non-reversable mod

Well, as I stated earlier I work slow and methodical in the evenings after work. This Jeep is not my DD nor will it be, it's more of a vaction and fun vehicle to be towed behind my motorhome and explore with.

I've been working on the Artec front axle armor kit this week. Artec claims 6 hours to install, I think this is weld time only. By the time you do all of the prep and cleaning, especially in the crevices on the center section it takes awhile. Then you can only weld so much and jump around so much before letting it sit and cool. To do this "RIGHT" you should pre-heat the center section in the areas as well as the areas on the "C"'s before welding.

I'm one of the pickiest people you will meet when it comes to doing it right and making it look factory fit and installed. I've had too many high point show cars that I've built and restored so it's a habit I can't break. Do it right or not at all.

This is being done without dis-assembling the differential also. This means that temps have to be monitored closely to prevent damage to seals or ball joints. You'll notice the infra-red thermometer on the table in one of the pics. Pre-heating and doing the center tonight, after it's all sewn up, I'll flip it and do the lower C gussets. Remember all of the welds are not present yet due to the skip around process neccessary.

Once it's all done I'll clean it up and apply a fresh coat of semi-flat black enamel before re-installation.

I'm seeing more and more 10Aers going with the Teraflax Tire Carrier over the AEV Rear Bumper Tire Carrier. Anyone have good pros and cons on how to choose the right one?

Prob end of May as production will halt and production for 2014 will begin in a month after.
Don't know the exact date, but I believe it's end of May to mid June

I think both are quality parts, but the visual issue of the tire not centered with the Jeep when using the AEV is one issue. Also, being able to drop the tire down a bit for better view out the rear window is a plus for the Teraflex unit.
