The 2012 drivetrain is a big step up, but not a $10,000 step up. $10,000 represents almost a 1/3 discount! It might be worth $2,000 - $4000, depending on your needs, but you should feel damn good if you got the 2011 for apples to apples 10k less.

I love the 2012 combo, I specifically waited for it to come out, but it ain't worth $10,000 over a 2011.

2011 / 2012

hi, my preious jeep was a 07jk i did trade it on new 12jk, both outstanding, the 12 is a bit better on road and the 5 speed auto is
also better, however if you save $$10 that is something to consider..
these are wonderful problems in life do what makes u happy.

Had both, 11 & 12, and it is night and day on the highway but don't think it's 10k better.

How did you find a 11 for $10k cheaper than a new one? Private sale?

thats a good question--Jeep didn't raise the price on the 2012s, so....my 2011 MSRP was 28,800 which I got for 24,300 before my trade in....so, maybe at most a diff in 4500 since I doubt the 12s are getting any type of discount.....

I just bought my 12 Jeep Wrangler Sahara - I love the new engine! But, I think all jeeps are awesome...I wish I had never gotten rid of my first jeep - it's not so much the engine; it's the experience!

The 12's are not discounted that much but they are discounted pretty close. OP- Sounds like you got a good deal and should make the best of it. If youll always want the new engine then go ahead and see what a trade in will cost you (at a different dealer) before you start modding the 11'

eh, wait a few years for the next big engine improvement--the 3.8 is tried and true and won't fail you....no sense is losing money so quickly on something you just bought

So what kind of gains? Cheaper than a Hemi swap/Ripp SC'er? When I see pistons on the bench I'm thinking $$...Not that I have a 3.8 anymore.

The gains on the flow bench have exceeded our expectations, the engine is definitely less than a Hemi conversion.

I guess the million dollar question would be does it give a 85HP gain?

If your going to spend $10k to make your 11 run like a 12 why didn't you just buy the 12?

It could have a 200 hp gain and be worthless unless there is a hp and torgue gain in the low end.

Only dyno time will tell the real numbers, it's looking very good at this point.

I bought an '11 auto 8 months ago and immediately planned on trading it in for a 12. Which I have just done. The 4 speed auto in the '11 is pathetic. A disgrace actually.

He probably gets about 20 on the highway, maybe a little more. (I get about 20 on the highway with a 2010 4 door on 33" tires . . . .) But no, his cylinders don't shut down unless that's a feature of the 3.6 I have never, ever heard of.

Only cylinder number 2 shuts down on a 2012
