I was thinking about buying a 2011 wrangler unlimited untill I found out they still have the 3.8l engine, I'll just have to wait till the 2012 model comes out with the 3.6l. My question is, what is the difference between the sport and sahara, in gunna eventually lift it later if that matters, thanks for the help. Price difference would be great
Mechanically wise, is it all the same, I'm pretty sure they both have Dana 30's in the front and Dana 44's in the back, his the extras and options are different, the sahara has bigger tires, does it also sit higher?
My understanding from reasearch and purchase of a 2010 unlimited.
You have to go for the Sahara if you really want any of the following -- navigation, leather, 18" wheels or painted fenders / bumper covers (for 2011, I think you also need a Sahara to get the body color freedom top and the electrical outlet on the dash). The brochure for 2010 also had a slightly different description of the shocks used between the Sport and Sahara.
If you don't need / want any of those things, you can do a little better on price by starting with a sport and adding the "S" package for power windows / locks, A/C, etc. or any other options that you want.
Dealer described the Sahara as a slightly smoother highway driver to appeal to commuters, while the Sport is a basic model that you can build to a near Sahara spec -- minus wheels, leather, nav, as stated above.
I was not looking for nav or leather, and I preferred the look of black versus painted fenders, so it was a Sport for me.
the Sahara comes with 18inch wheels, has all the power options, A/C, infinity sound system with sub woofer, painted fenders (and hardtop on 2011 models), grey mettalic part in the middle of the front and the rear bumper, tinted windows on hard and soft top and leather stearing wheel.
I am personnaly not a big fan of the painted fenders and the sahara tires, what I did is take the X model, equip it like the sahara and added the rubicon tires and suspension and it came to the same price as a sahara.
JK- Fun ride, always, all the time.
i bought 08 sahara, got sahara as it was equipped a little better than the x models on lot at the time. what i should have done, is compare sahara to rubicon. don't over look the rubis because of price, i here people getting 4500 off as end of year left over.
I started out with the Unlimited Sport, added custom leather with heat, nav, backup camera, lift, wheels/tires, aev bumpers, electric steps, tow, and a slew of other things and have a jeep that I prefer to the Sahara!
