12v accessory outlet quit working

The 12v accessory outlet in my JK has stopped working. Yes, it was working until last week and yes I know I have to have the key on.

My first thought was that I blew a fuse but I'm not seeing a fuse dedicated to this outlet. Is there a fuse and I just can't read or has anyone else run into this issue?

I don't want to take it to the stealership if it's a simple fix.

thanks

Should be a fuse, but shouldn't warranty cover any issue like this?

Ah, third time's the charm. Found the blown fuse. For future reference, it's a 20 amp fuse in slot M36.

Question: The only thing I recall doing differently w/ this outlet lately is I used a cigarette lighter in it. Was this it just a fluke that the fuse blew? or is using a lighter in the outlet a very bad idea?

thanks

did you get the smoker's package? I'm not sure that outlet is supposed to use a cigarette lighter or just be a pure 12V power source

I did not get the smokers package. But I found that on long trips with the top down I sometimes wanted to light a cig so I bought a lighter to use in the outlet. I used it a few times over a month's time before the fuse blew.

That being said I bought a torch lighter to keep in the Jeep that should solve my prob.

yeah...I bet it's the lighter. Glad it didn't melt anything in the 12V outlet.

There is a difference when you buy an accessory plug after market from a cigarette lighter plug, looks like s ceramic disk in the back of the outlet

I've blown the fuse 3 times, but all I'm using it for is a cell phone charger.

If you get the Smoker's Package, the lighter plugs into this outlet; not sure why aftermarket lighter would blow a fuse.

If that is all you are using it for and you haven't tied anything else into that circuit, you've got an electrical problem. If it's still under warranty, take it in and let the dealer chase down the gremlins.

I know this is an old thread but I had the same problem and your post helped me out. It was the M36, not the M6 or M7. Thanks!
