14" Antenna

I just installed a 14" antenna from "AntennaX.com off EBAY. The total with shipping was $20.95. I am having no issues with reception AM or FM or SAT.

There are others out there but this one was a very solid fit and simply screwed into the factory mount with the included insert. The all black looks great IMHO. Thought you might want to check this one out if your thinking of getting a shorter antenna. Jim.

What's the purpose for a shorter antenna?

Personally the shorter just looks better and doesn't bang into my windshield mounted lights like the factory one did on rough going. So its a "look" thing as well as functionality. I also like the all black antenna with my black trim. Its a quality package IMHO. Jim.

The ball is just soldered on. I used a pair of pliers to knock it loose. I did have to grind the end down a bit. (black does look better) I read somewhere not to go shorter than 14".

I was thinking of doing it myself. I might just go like 20". I live in the hills and don't want to lose to much signal.

Talking I did it to........

Got my 13" flex antenna from AntennaX.com today and the install took all of 5-min. Reception is as good as the 6-ft one that came on my JKU

The black goes well with my Silver JKU

Off road the stock antenna will catch on low branches and whip around smacking the side of your windshield.

I installed mine today and took it off. Reception was terrible. Loved the look but picked up too much static and lost reception on AM and FM. I should have trusted my instincts. Doesn't work well at all. I live on Long Island in the suburbs. Could it be a bad antenna based on others positive reviews?

Going with a shorter antenna is all about how far away you are from the station, and signal strenth. In the city a short antenna will work just fine. But the farther away on the fringe area, you will not get near as good recption with a shorty antenna. The terain is also a big factor.

If you screw this up, then there's no hope for you. I can confirm there's no drilling required. Really. All you need are thumbs and a wrench.
