Yes I know, there are may threads about this but personally I am having a really tough time deciding. My jeep is a daily driver but I do plan to do some moderate off roading (On the east coast). I plan to run 35 inch nitto trail grapplers on a 3.5 inch lift. I was looking at Fuel Boost rims which I feel would look better in 18 inches as opposed to 17inches. If I go with 18 inch rims in my situation will it matter? I hear 17 inch is better all around price and offroad wise, but for my Use would 18 inch look a preform well?
From my understanding most go with 17's for rock crawling purposes. More side-wall rubber the better for those purpose. If rock crawling isn't on your menu, then you should be fine with 18's if you like them better.
I'm more of a deep woods hunting, trail, mud and snow off-road terrain person. No rock crawling, none really around in my area. I don't really see any benefit of extra side-wall rubber for those purposes. I also prefer 18in wheels over 17's. One of my concerns when considering 17's is that I have the Mopar Big Brake Kit installed which has a larger caliper than stock brakes. Some 17's don't fit with the larger brakes, so to just avoid that situation I look for 18's. So 18's do have some benefits over 17's as well.
It's gunna depend on what your plan is for wheeling your Jeep. If you're the occasional wheeler, 18" rims is fine but 17" is ideal (no, you're not gunna fall off the edge of the trails or anything, people just tend to prefer the extra rubber, you'd still be OK for the most part). If you're really into the looks of it, I have personally found if I want the looks of something and then get the alternative, I end up regretting and going with my original plan (assuming it still retains functionality).
Ultimately it's up to you and your tastes. I agree with Old Dogger, I like the 18's much more on the 4 doors than the 2 doors, but that's just me. Good luck! :thumb:
18s have no benefits at all. Bigger, heavier, more expensive for rims, more expensive for tires, less sidewall for off roading. They will also make whatever size tires you get look smaller then how theyd look on a 17inch wheel. Unless you really love the 18 inch look, go with 17s.
