Question 1st post, 5th jeep, need some advice on lifts

Hello everyone, this is my first post on WF, I've been sneak attack reading your posts for a few weeks now and am learning a lot.. Thanks!

I just picked up a 4 door Sahara today and I need a little advice from you very knowledgeable folks.. Question is what type of lift I want to get.. I'd like to run 35's on it, but I don't want to ruin the performance on the road being this is my daily ride.. (I understand it's not gonna ride the same, just looking for best option) I've seen a couple jeeps on here with a 2.5" lift with 35's that look great, just not so sure they are good for daily driving.. Can someone give a little advice on the differences between lifts (suspension, coil spring, body lifts) I'm lost when it comes to this topic and could use your recommendations.. I'm willing to re gear and put a superchip in to boost performance, but I need a bit of help with the options I have for a lift..

I'm running 35's, and a Teraflex 2.5" lift, and it's a DD.shocks are decent, but I will be upgrading them but I'm in no hurry. it feels pretty close to stock. I netted over 3" actual lift as well. I cut off the pinch seam, but I haven't gotten the fenders to rub. I try

pretty nice lift.

body lifts lift the body of the jeep up off the frame. they don't help flex, or offroad performance. all it is, is a spacer. you also shouldn't go beyond 1.5" due to the fact it becomes unsafe, and the separation between the body and frame really start to become noticeable. it makes a gap. BL's should only be used as "extra" clearance for tires.

suspension lifts should be your primary lift. the entire jeep gets lifted higher except the axles, and driveshafts to a degree. they basically include spacers on top of the springs and shock extensions (budget boost) or larger springs and longer shocks. they will also help with flex and axle movement. the downside is it changes driveline and suspension geometry. driveshaft angles get steeper, axles get knocked off center, and steering angles shift. this is all correctable though. the higher you lift, the more needs done to correct things.

gears depend on where you live, type of transmission, and how heavy your foot is. I've got 4.10's with my 35's and a Superchip and it runs just fine. I live in flat Ohio though. my setup wouldn't work in say west Virginia or Colorado where it's mountainous.

a superchip I suggest with or without gears. JK's take to them very well. it'll correct your speedo, and aid in throttle response. it also manipulates engine timing for a little more HP. even with new gears, it's a bonus.

check out my Jeep Profile for a the look of the lift and tires. I drive a 2 door, so it'll look slightly different as you have a 4. I'm sure someone will post here though with 35's on a 4 door sooner or later.

Thanks for the info GroungHawg, I've been seeing a lot of the TF lift, just wasn't sure if that was the best option.. I drive a manual transmission, and live in SoCal, so it's pretty flat here. I've been reading about the re gearing and seen some charts, I'm leaning towards 4.88.. thoughts?? Thanks for confirming that the superchip is must have too..

Appreciate the scolding as well Duke, I hope you didn't break your keyboard typing that.. Next time I'm looking for Mrs. Hines to tell me to do my homework I'll give ya a jingle.. I assume everyone has different wants for their own ride which probably entails their own personal questions, but thanks for the warm welcome anyway..

welcome to WF by the way. I was still sleeping when I posted and missed you were a new member.

Teraflex makes great lifts for the price. OME and Rubicon Express are your top dogs IMO, but Teraflex is right there with em'. I'd recommend this lift to anyone, and would purchase it again.

one thing I forgot to mention was both lifts can also be combined. for example say you got a 2.5" suspension lift, but the tires rub the flares a little. instead of cutting the flares, put on a 1" body lift. now you have 3.5" of lift between the lifts. you have good articulation, proper tire clearance, and you've done it economically...without screwing up the geometry of the suspension anymore than what was unavoidable.

Hey, ya know what? The Duke is right.

A warm welcome is always offered here but if you would have taken the time to try to do a little of your own homework, instead of just posting a question you may have found many of the answers to your questions have already been posted REPEATEDLY.

I would like to know why you found it necessary to be such a snot to Duke.
You want to talk about a warm welcome, well bub, how about you just cool your own doggone jets a little and you'll get a little more of the warm fuzzies that you feel you so righteously deserve.

These forums run all day, every day. You can count on new people coming to them and asking the same five questions over and over and OVER AND OVER again. Everyone seems to think that their question is more important or unique than the other guy's was. They all too often don't take the time to search for answers either because they are ignorant in the ways of a search tool or usually out of just plain laziness. My suspension is stock with the exception of heavy duty gas shocks and my plans are to keep it that way. That being said, my advice would be to put the most complete kit on it that you can.

Kate (whom I've never known to be cranky, and for some reason I think I like it) and Duke have some really good points. This is a subject that you need to know extensively before making what could be a costly mostake.

35's will stress everything, especially over time. Start with the best and most complete components to mitigate that stress and prepare for future related expenses.

The best advice I can give you is to figure out what you don't know and ask specific questions. You will get much better results.

35's WILL create considerably more stress. Up to 33's you won't have a lot of problems unless you hammer on it a lot but 35's add that little extra weight & torque that causes things like U joints and axles. On the JKs I've seen people rip the trac bar mounts off of their axles.

So research, research, research. Try to be a little thick skinned. People, including me, are going to give you a hard time now and then. This being your fifth Jeep, you should know that already

That's a bit of a contradiction Kate, " A warm welcome is ALWAYS offered here, BUT".. but if you ask one question you'll be shot and called arrogant and lazy.. lol I was just giving a little banter back to Duke since he dropped it on me, the new kid always has to stand up for himself right?? I don't mind a little bantering either, but I figured I'm allowed to dish a touch back at least..

I really did read (before asking my question) 8,000,000 posts on here about the lifts and everything else till my eyes were spinning.. Problem is I've seen so many different answers and people seem to want different things for their ride so I figured I'd ask my own question, I think that's what this forum is for, to share info, gain knowledge, and express our love for jeeps..

Anyway, I appreciated the info in your second post and everyone else's info on the topic as well.. Last thing I want to do is get "The Angry Irish Woman" mad, although I think Daggo and I really like you that way.. So what lift do you suggest again?? just kidding.. ) Hope you're well..
