Question 2,100 RPM, what MPH?

I know there are a lot of differences in the automatic/manual, pre-2012/2012+, gears, etc. but I was wondering how fast are you going when your engine is at 2,100 RPM?

Play with this:

Gear Ratio Calculator

Set the tranny pull-down menu to Dodge 42RLE, transfer case ratios to 1 and 4, axle ratio to 5.38, tire size to 34.8", and have fun....

My 2012 auto, 3.73, 32" stock tires, is doing about 65 MPH in 5th gear at 2100 RPM.

You should be going about 56 MPH at 2000 RPM according to the calculator... So, just under 60 MPH at about 2,100 RPM....

I normally try to keep it under 2000 rpm most of the time so I maintain over 20 mpg and avoid tickets, but I'll holla back when I get there!

Try this one, I put it together when fiddling one night to see the difference changing diffs would make. It sort of grew from there.

It was a trick question - probably won’t be making any friends for it.

I’ve see the 0-60, MPG, 1/4 mile time, burnout, CAI, how does it look, etc. threads, and have been wondering are we discussing cars or Jeeps? I realize that some (many? most?) have their Jeep as a DD and some of the car type topics (on-road type topics) are important to them. However, it seems like many (most?) of the popular threads and responses here are car type topics (try clicking on Replies or Views threads and see what’s most popular), and with the 2012s it seems to be more so. I’m sure the trend will continue with the 2013s and beyond. On a Jeep forum, why is the first reaction of many to think of the “car-ness” of the Jeep instead of the “Jeep-ness”?

I wonder, if I posted this question years ago or on a CJ/YJ/TJ forum would I have gotten a different response? Ever seen a JK thread here where people were comparing how well their Jeeps could crawl (FYI - it’s pretty good at it).

I thought of this topic last month when I was out wheeling and crawling up a rocky hill that’s now probably burnt up (lookup Gladiator Fire near Crown King), and took a picture of my dash - in 4 Low and 1st it’s about 3 MPH at 2,100 RPM:

Heh Heh, I kinda wondered about your question--

Mine does about 3900rpm in 4lo/1st gear/w unbelievable power/torque--as you know-

We just can't go very fast in 4lo !

Jim- Yeah, when the Jeep is off-road and in 4 low there’s more than enough power and torque, and based on your gearing you can make it crawl really nice. Right, you ain’t going fast in 4 Low.

2100 rpm

hi, most of the time i like to drive about 65 my jeep feels good at that
speed, however it turns about 1750 rpm at 70 mph, its a 2 door 2012jk,
with 3.21 rear and limited slip, l do get about 25-30 MPGS at 65mph, runs
much better that my 07jk with 3.73 rear that puppy got about 13 mpg.
both were auto with good year 24s factory m/s tires, i never look back,
i lookforward to the 2014 jeep with 6 speed auto and diesel which will get
30+ mpgs all the time. life is good

Heh Heh, yeah joe and I'll tell ya, there's a phenominal difference in towing that trailer up hills----compared to when I had the 4.10 gears-

It's really too bad so many new jeepers (pre 2012) don't realize the inherent power/torque in that little 3.8L---with just the right gears !!

My JKUR now weighs probably 600 lbs more than it did when I had the stock gears and she handles like a pup (yours)

The never ending story-

Take that sucker off road, put it in 4 Low and 1st, and check out the power/torque and see how you can crawl over things.
