I love my 4d 11' JKU, got a great deal when the 12's were coming out and my old vechile (SRT4) was on it's last legs. It's just me, no kids, family, etc but having the extra space has come in handy for trips. But lately I have thought about getting a 2dr 13', trying to resist test driving a new one. One of the things that attracted me to the 4dr was how much smoother it was with the longer wheelbase. Def. a different beast then the 2dr.

I'm thinking that the 2dr Jeeps are a little light in the loafers and that all the 4dr guys should start sporting 2dr recovery decals. .

I've had both over the years and IMO the 4dr has been a much better multi purpose Jeep. It rides better, hauls more, and tows more.

I don't own a jeep yet - still doing research; and just found JWForum today. This thread interests me since I am a bird hunter and need room for 2 dogs w/ crates. Does anyone know the difference in cargo dimensions for 4dr Unlimited and the older 2dr Unlimited with longer wheel base, with back seats down or out (not sure if I am describing properly or not)? This seems like the first decision I need to make before looking at Wranglers for sale. I also tow boats, the heaviest being just 15ft and 2k lbs so I am assuming either would work for me. Is this a good assumption? Anxious to get one and add trail riding / rock climbing to my list of outdoor interests.

Yah- no room for dog + crate in a 2 door. No question. I don't think the width is different but a crate will take ALL the length in a 2 door. (Assuming you don't have ankle biters.) Just make sure to check your gear ratio and look for the tow package.

I'm thinking that the 2dr Jeeps are a little light in the loafers and that all the 4dr guys should start sporting 2dr recovery decals.

Light in the loafers?
You're so right- 20 years of 2 door Jeeps- totally wrong. Bunch of lightweights every single year until the Unlimiteds came along. Thank god there are now Jeeps with 4 doors there to pull us out of ditches.

I prefer 2 doors, and always will. I wanted to replace my TJ. A 4 door is not an updated TJ- its something else entirely. A 5 minute test drive should clarify it. To each their own- IMO.

For us, if there was no 4DR Wrangler, then I wouldn't have purchased a Wrangler. We are a normal middle class family, we have two cars and that's it, so they have to be somewhat practical. For us and our 3 boys (#3 born yesterday!), we couldn't justify a vehicle that was just "fun". BUT, we could justify one that was "fun" and pretty practical in the same breath...13' JKUR in CG, and I can't say enough about how much we actually enjoy this fun/practical vehicle. The 4DR Wrangler saved me from 10 years of torture in some other car based SUV, not that there aren't some great vehicles out there, but they would have bored me to death.

Towing

Why does the 4 door have such a higher towing capacity with the same engine?
2000 vs 3500

Because its heavier and more stable is basically how I understand it. There is no doubt that either could pull more than that weight but I think the problems are with stopping that much weight. Some good info in a thread about towing a 4000lb boat on here somewhere.

I would send the link but can't figure out how from the app. If you search towing it will come up as towing ability I think. Hope this helps.

2-Door the only other person that should be riding with you is a fine broad. But really the originals were 2-door and that's how they were suppose to be made.

However I would lean to the 4-door only if I had kids. Even then though I wouldn't let them in my jeep

Really? The "originals" couldn't even drive 1000 miles without something breaking on them and had no AC. As a matter of fact lots of them didn't even have any doors on them.

What does something that was made over 75 years ago have to do with making a decision about what to get today?

I recently traded my JKUR for a JK Rubicon to save some cash. I have two kids so the back seat is not as convenient, but it is much more fun to drive. The turning radius is much better on the JK. The JK is not a daily driver for me, I have no regrets from the trade.

I would love for a four door to pull me out of a sticky situation. The only problem is they can't seem to get there

I really like my 2 door. I dont have kids and leave the backseat folded down most of the time so there is plenty of room for stuff. I like the shorter wheelbase and better turning radius. If you have kids you deffinatly want a 4 door for the extra room, its still alot more fun then any other SUV in its price range.

Lmbo reading... What is up with thee "Assumptions" everywhere Equating four door owners and kids? Wow.... Smh.

When I had my why Yj back when I was a teen it was great. Anybody who wanted to ride with me simply jumped in. The days of jumping "in" are gone (For me and my pals anyway ) and who feels like getting out To let anyone or anything in... But aside from that, I love the 4dr For her body...nothing to do with groceries or kids

I'm not lol sold my 4dr and have a 2dr now...side by side the 2dr beats it in the rocks and nasty stuff.....the only place I've been a little put out is the massive rocks where wheelbase is king so I'll stretch my 2dr to 104-106" and be good.

I do miss the back doors and storage however I don't miss dragging the belly on everything and ripping my tub and quarter panels into canyon walls....both 4" lift both 37s and both locked front and rear....I left more fenders, tail lights, lic plate parts and paint on canyon walls pushing through where 2doors walked through....

The 2dr just works better in the nasty stuff....

Only way a 4dr can start to compete is d60s and 40"+ tires then it starts to co e up but the tank needs to be relocated because the belly clearance is so low....

I do miss my 4dr allot loved it built it and wheeled the hell outa it....plus it was a cool factor ride got a lot of attention.....

So this year and a half old thread gets revived twice, ok I get it, sort of.

The question is, did this guy buy a real Jeep or the 4 door?

Revived yes but if people ask a question often time members tell em to use the search function but when they do and revive an old thread they get grief for doing so. There's no winning either way.

Back on topic: I like the two door for its handling and fun factor, I wish I had a 4 door when I have to load it up for a trip or take friends with me

Unfortunately yes, the national highway traffic safety commission is releasing a statement t Monday banning all jeeps from the mall and any jeep found modded and not off roaded will be fined. Jeeps worried as they will see the sales of 4dr their most popular vehicle to date decline at least a90%...

Sorry had too....I know they are personal expressions of the owner but that can be good or bad based on build and if its actually used....
