Hi all,

First off let me start by saying that I'm new to the Jeep Wrangler forum. I will be purchasing my first Jeep Wrangler in the next few weeks. I know exactly jeep wrangler I want, I just don't know if I want a 2 door or a 4 door.

I am 19 and currently in college, so both jeeps are practical. I just wanted to see what you guys thought.

Thanks, I look forward to be in the Jeep family!

Welcome to Wf.

Jeeps aren't really practical at any point in life but they are always enjoyed! You need to pick the one that suites your needs better. Neither is better or worse than the other. It is entirely dependent on how you're going to use it.

I dare to disagree.
My 4 door is very practical to me.
I have rear space separated for my dog. When I am without dog I can load lot's of stuff in the back, especially when I drop down the rear seats.
I can travel with my wife, with our luggage on the rear seat and our dog all the way back in the cargo area. How practical is this ?
When I was younger (some 25 years ago) I had 2 door Wrangler and loved it (although it broke my back bone with bouncy ride, because of short wheel base). Now that I am older, 4 door gives me MUCH more comfortable ride, and as I said - to me it is very practical.

When I was 19 I had a 2 door... the only option at the time! If I didn't have a child I would still have a 2 door. If you are even thinking 4 door, it might be a good option. If you plan on keeping it for a while you won't have to worry about stepping up to a 4 door if you have the needs down the road.

Whatever one fits your interests. Neither is better. The 4 door is perhaps more popular here overall as a result of the increased practicality, but that's really an individual determination. Go test drive them and then your own choice.

If you want to wheel it then the 2 door will go just about anywhere right out of the box. The 4 door will and often does get high centered when not lifted. Other than that just a matter of taste I suppose. I still prefer the 2 door becaue it can turn so sharp and fits my needs.

I ordered my 13 in august when i was 19(now 20). Didnt even think of a 4 door. 2 door was the only way i was going and am very happy with it. A 4 door for me would make me feel like a dad and honestly doesnt look how i like a jeep to look. Im sure once I have kids a 4 door will be the family vehicle but I'll always have a 2 door jeep as a modded over the top toy.

And the 4 door is a better climber because of its longer wheelbase. Unless you have very specific types of trails that you only use, it's generally going to be a wash in terms of offroad capability.

I'm overwhelmed by the support by my fellow Jeepers:).

I'm leaning more towards the 2 door just because I can't think of any real reasons why I would need more space. I also wanted to add I will be installing a custom wrangler fitted subwoofer box in the back of the jeep.

It's not about needing more space, It's you have more space available.

I went on a 50 Jeep run a few weeks ago there was about 5 two doors in the lot.. the trend is 4 door.

2 cheaper, barely better gas mileage.

4 door more room and space for friends, kegs, and road trips.

being fresh out of college myself, i would get a 4 door for college. in college, i NEVER drove alone and what is the point of having a jeep if your friends can't enjoy it with you. the 2 door is just small and with 4 people in it forget about packing drinks/supplies for anything you do.

*edit*
just get a manual so no one else untrustworthy can drive it.

You can fit kegs in a 2 door too when you remove the back seat. And maybe i'm just different but I don't want people bumming rides off me. And only having two seats is a perfect excuse to say sorry...no room for you, just me and my woman...as for getting a manual to stop untrustworthy people from driving it...how about just not letting people drive it? Especially people you don't trust??

Get whatever suits your needs best. Both have their positives and negative.

Unfortunately, this question....along with "stick or auto"......tends to incite the masses.

Im 18 and love my 2 door. Like everyone here has said, it's the original and you feel like you are driving a piece of history. I think they are also easier to maneuver in traffic and easier to park on campus. I'd definitely recommend it over a 4 door which just feels more bulky and inconvenient IMO. I usually just keep my back seat out as well, and if I ever need to drive more than one other person somewhere, I throw it back in and I never have a problem.

First off, Uriah Jeep, that's a good one. :thumb:

Personally I prefer the look of the 4 door. It is also more practical for the family. However, without a family I would still have 4 door just for the looks.

To me it gets down to which looks best to you and do you need more space.

I love our 4 door, but wish I had the coin for a 2 door also! I have a feeling we'll be getting another Jeep....but my answer to you would be the 2 door for all the reasons everyone else has given you. And anytime someone asks me if they can sit on or ride my Harley they get the answer you should give them! (you can be nice if you want lol)

^^That's a big consideration if you do a lot of highways driving.

Personally, I could never deal with a 2 door. I was single for quite a while and even when I bought my JKU so no kids or anything like that influenced my decision. I'm a photographer and I was having issues fitting gear and my car rig in to my Jetta. That's not an issue anymore. When I want to take the friends somewhere, they're not crawling over my seats to get in and out. I've heard 2 door people on this forum complaining about highway ride. I've been on lots of trips of 200 miles on the highway or more and have had no complaints about the ride at all. Overall the 4 door was better for me and I just think it looks better.
