2 questions

I am looking to buy a jeep wrangler unlimited sport s trim level and had 2 questions.

1) what skid plates will come standard on this?

2) I am looking at getting the automatic and have the option to get Trac-Lok (limited slip rear differential) what exactly does this get me? I am not a hardcore offroader but will take this jeep off road and live in central NY where a foot of snow can accumulate over night. Can someone explain what it is and if i really need it or not?

Trac loc is not going to be a big deal in the snow. Full lockers, to that point, are typically bad for snow. Lockers in ice and rain have a tendency to put you all over the road, they are designed foroff road. That said, the fact that jks have traction control is a huge benefit for snow.

As far as skid plates go...jks have a decent set up stock from a clearance standpoint. Pretty much the best factory clearance on any jeep from the factory. What are you concerned about with skids?

I am not positive on the JK skid plate package, likely a gas tank and t-case skid. What I do know is it does not come with a evap canister skid which if your going offroad you will want. It is easily damaged and in what I would consider a vulnerable position. Its not a cheap fix if busted. The trac lock will help you out with the snow and in mild offroad conditions as well.

Gas tank, transmission skid "bar" (2011 and on), and transfer case skids come stock.

"TracLoc" is not a locker. It's a limited slip differential. It helps overcome the natural tendency of a differential to send power to a wheel that's slipping. It's a good thing to have off road or in the snow. I recommend that option.
